[FIXED] Sandbox 3 can't open or save .cry files

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 7:41 am

How has sandbox 3 treated you? Thoughts and impressions? Discuss.

You can make maps via export to engine and they are playable ingame. However, saving a .cry file will return "Save Failed." If you can't save .cry files then you can NEVER reopen them in the sandbox.

Either this is an error with my install, or it's what Crytek gave us. An official response would be most welcome.

THE FIX
Rename your "Crysis? 2 Limited Edition" folder to "Crysis 2 Limited Edition" and it should work.

I started making a test map right away and didn't try opening any game levels. I tried it now and have the same problem. Opening a cry file does nothing.

unfortunately, yes. This means the editor is completely worthless at this point. At least the 3dsmax plugin works. But trying to make import a custom material crashes the editor.

[edit]deathxxxhippie: you can open .cry files? Have you tried other files or just alienvessel?

I think you should change thread title to "can't open .cry file"

This is bloody odd (oh and hi Ahrek, long time no... etc etc) I can open the ones from the game files and can save them too. However any that I've saved can't be opened again as they return errors for all assets listed in them.

Will have to check if that is related to the directories I was trying to save them in or if it's actually that they get saved as garbage.

Which version of 3dsmax do you have?

Ah, this seems to be a solution for our issues:

3dsMax 2010. I can import any of my models, but materials cause crashes.

Btw...what versions of Crysis 2 do people have? I heard the steam version works with the editor just fine. I have EADM version.

[edit] Minozaa, that's just registry issues. The post still says saving and loading .cry files is still an issue, which is the point of this thread.

I've since found that I can save .cry files and then open them again (along with a big error list every time), so long as I save them in the same folder as the original .cry file I opened to tinker with.

I'm currently running the Steam version on Win 7 64bit. I've also got a DVD version of it somewhere around here too, which I may well install later to see if it works properly or not.

btw Crymod is finally back up again, so you might be able to get some better help there. My current plan is to leave it for the night and just relax, then tomorrow after work I'll get to come back home and see that the crymod peeps have sorted most of the issues out, hopefully.

Well...that fixed it.

Rename your "Crysis? 2 Limited Edition" folder to "Crysis 2 Limited Edition" and it should work.
Remove the ? symbol.

Haha...this was there in the SB2 as well.
There should really be a FAQ anyway, here or at the crymod wiki.
