During Old Guns we run into Sarge the sentry bot. Is there a way to keep him and make him friendly - part of the Minutemen team? Or do I have to kill him?

I've seen at least one person claim that the Robotics Expert perk can keep Sarge pacified. Never used the perk, don't know the nuances, but that's one option.
