Sav deleted. I found my wife sitting on the floor crying.

Preface: my wife is not a gamer, she was brought up in a very strict household, and wasn't allowed to play much of anything(not even board games). It has taken me well over a decade to undo a lot of that mindset, but she's come a long way. She still doesn't play much, mainly candy crush and stuff like that. Until 3 weeks ago when I finally got her to try fallout shelter. And she was instantly hooked. It's taken her this long to get to a point where she's not constantly on the verge of dying. I finally talked her into buying a few Mr. Handys, and life was good. So last night, I told my wife about the update, and explained about the cloud save, and that she needed to do that, because if anything happened to her phone, her Vault would be gone. She said ok, as she was clicking away at her dwellers, and never looked up. I proceeded to head off to the shower. I get my shower, step out, hear a strange noise, open the door... And there's my middle aged wife, an avid non-gamer, sitting on the floor next to our bed, clutching her phone, crying her eyes out. I said, "Baby, what's the matter?!?" She slowly scoots around, phone cradled in her hand like a toddler with a broken favorite toy... She stretches the phone out to me, screen facing me, with an empty vault with just an elevator... "My game is gone." Tears rolling down her cheeks... "My phone died, I didn't think my battery was that low, I came and plugged it up, and started my game, and my vault wasn't there..." I stopped her: "Please tell me you didn't already start a new game in the same slot...And name it the same...(not that it actually matters, but I knew there was a better chance of recovering if it hadn't already written back over those blocks)... But, yes, yes she had. In the long run, it didn't matter. I spent the next 3 hours trying to recover her game save. I'm an IT professional with over 20 years experience, and I used every trick in my book, and a few new ones. In the end, nothing worked. Luckily I've been backing mine up manually every couple days, so I pulled my save off from yesterday before I did the new update(you know, just in case). Copied it over, and explained that hers was gone, but she could play mine instead of starting over(i had like 40 times her stuff anyway, but that's not the point). It wasn't "her game", and as a life long gamer, I totally get that. But she thanked me for trying, and for my game, and finally stopped crying and went to bed.

I know there's probably not anything that can be done at this point. I just wanted to share the story, of how my wife had her first real "Gamer Moment". And in the grand scheme of things, I'm kinda proud of that.

Hi dude!!....I suffer the same problem....I need to reinstall my phone and.... I CAN′T BECAUSE Those morons don't have a save state on a cloud...perhaps if they say in which folder its contains, perhaps we can create a backup...

I know how hard is to teach a wife to be a gamer......It′s almost impossible.....

PS. I send a Email to bethesda support for this case, and I wait the response, if you want to follow the status, please check this ID 151015-003121

With a file explorer on your phone (ES File Explorer is free, and works great) go to:

/storage/sdcard/android/data/com.gamesas.falloutshelter/files/VaultX.sav

Where the X in VaultX.sav is 1, 2 or 3, it should correspond to the savegame in the list from top to bottom.

Copy/paste that into a safe location (downloads folder for instance) and there you go.

Aww bless. Give her a hug from me. And never let her play new Vegas...

Yeah I had been backing mine up with ES every couple days since I started playing. That's just an old habit that's hard to break, even with most stuff having cloud saves now. I still do it manually. But that's saved me a lot of headache over the years.

my save file (after the update) became zero bytes. It is still there but there is no data.

At least if it went missing I would have a CHANCE at recovery. Either way, Bethesda takes no responsibility for the ~$30 I blew on my vault.

Oh,Noitaretilbo... I wish I'd learnt from your wife's heartache and made copies of my save files, or at least on the cloud. My vault is gone and unfortunately my husband isn't the tech guru you seem to be! :(
