[WIP/REL] Savage Wasteland 2.0

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:37 am

I have a new menu script written down on paper that I think will work. It will have the options: Set All, Custom Setup, Exit. Set All will give you the option to adjust all rarity up or down, weapon health or to turn the whole thing off. The Custom Setup option will take you to the current main menu. Hopefully this will work for everyone, I had considered adding the Low, Medium, High and Extreme presets as well as having an option for Custom Presets, but those would be a bit more involved and are therefore being put off until a later date. I'll be going through the current version looking for UL Items and will hopefully have an update in a week or two.

Please keep me updated on any error that anyone finds, I'll be working on this mod fairly diligently as I've decided to put off purchasing New Vegas. So; No Distractions!! (well except for family, cooking, real life and work)

That all sounds about right to me, that's pretty much what I envisioned with a global set up option. Frankly I wouldn't bother with the Low, Medium, High settings, they're pretty much redundant if you can set the value yourself. So far those are the only two UL items I've come across, but I haven't made it too far into the game yet. I screwed things up for myself recently by changing some entries in the ini file that I shouldn't have, and now I'm starting over yet again. So is there any possibility of adding in the Teddy Bears along with the new menu? Now that everything else has become scarce, those things really stand out. I'm not really concerned about things like bottles etc. as I've made some of those things worthless in my game anyway. They're just scenery now as far as I'm concerned. It would be kind of nice to have everything included, but I'm in no hurry for the rest of it. As for New Vegas, that sounds like a good idea. It seems to be pretty buggy from what I've been reading. You're better off waiting until they've got some of the bugs patched out.

Well I suppose I could add Teddy Bears right now, but it would take longer to get the next release. I was just planning on cleaning up the menu and the UL items. Is the cell your talking about the one where there are Super Mutants or Enclave fighting some Raiders and you just sort walk into the middle of it at some sort of train station?

After buying Fallout 3 twice I'm thinking I may just wait until New Vegas GOTY is released. I've also considered not getting it all (I'm not a fan of Steam) but I think that would hurt me more than it would hurt the developers.

No. Just a short ways from Farragut Station, where that path to Chevy Chase is and across the bridge from the Super Duper Mart, there's alot of cars in this roadway, and there's a grenade bouquet above them all. If you go down right to the end and turn left from there, you'll come across a Super Mutant garrison. It's just down from that Shelter interior where some maniac had placed a bunch of plungers going up the walls, and you can see that he somehow made it right up to the ceiling. Then just up from there is a single Talon mercenary with a robot on patrol there. The items are right in the garrison in a pile of car parts, mostly tires IIRC, next to a wall.

Well I suppose I could add Teddy Bears right now, but it would take longer to get the next release.

Well if you're planning on making a new version anyway, you may as well add a new item to it. At least there aren't 10,000 Teddy Bears like there are for Tin Cans. I admire your patience placing all those items, I get so frustrated trying to work around all the area and lighting effects in the game. It can be pretty hard to reach an item when there's some mist or ambient light source in your way.

I've also considered not getting it all (I'm not a fan of Steam)

That's crossed my mind as well. I don't like anything to do with being forced to go online for a game, especially not activating it. Ironic that they made things more inconvenient for the honest user and yet there was still a pirate copy available within a day of release.

Okay, now I know which cell you were talking about, that should be an easy fix. I may just go ahead and start replacing a lot of the remaining random junk and have small releases ass I get to certain milestones. That way if you don't care about Forks and Spoons you can wait to upgrade until a later version.

I kind of figured that would spell it out pretty clearly. I haven't come across any more items yet.

That would be the way to go about it from this point IMO. You have all the main stuff covered, the rest is just clutter that's not really that important aside from making a few caps if you want to go through alot of bother. The thing with the Teddy Bears though is that if you've been through The Pitt, you know to start collecting them ASAP. So by the time you make it through there again you have a pretty large stockpile and can make a ton of caps. So that should really be the first priority of new things to add.

So the weapon components are working out well. I have a reasonable amount of items now to make Bottlecap Mines with, instead of the huge stockpile I used to have. I have to try to use them sparingly instead of tossing them around freely like I could before. That's about the only crafted weapon I bother with really. Nuka Grenades I can see using as well but I never even make them until I finish that Quantum quest. BTW, the Wasteland looks much neater now that there aren't all those cans lying around. It will look even better once you get around to all the bottles. Bethesda went way overboard with all those items IMO.

So I ran into a bunch of UL items. They're at the MDPL Mass Relay Station, northwest of Arefu. I'm afraid I can't be more specific as it's in the Wasteland with no real reference points nearby. You'll have to look it up on the Portal map I guess. Just coming up to it from the southeast I found Whiskey, Mentats, a Motorcycle Gastank and Handbrake. So that whole area needs some cleaning up.
