Save cleaner?

Post » Thu Aug 14, 2014 5:56 pm

I recently reinstalled Oblivion and mods to play again. I dropped a save game file from my last Oblivion build in to see if I could continue on with my old character and while I was able to overcome most issues there are a couple issues left that indicate the save needs to be cleaned in some way. None of the issues occur when starting a new character. The issues in descending order of importance are:

1. Kvatch Rebuilt. If I have the mod Kvatch rebuilt enabled the game starts, save loads and game crashes after about a minute of play. Likely a conflict with the older version I used to use and stuff it saved in the save.

2. Guard Death bug. Guards in the Imperial City drop dead as I change cells. I recall reading about this years ago and again this indicates stuff in my old save conflicting as this is not an issue with a new character.

3. Start point. My old save was made in the Great Temple of Akatosh and when I load in now I am in the Imperial City.

So is there a utility that would allow me to clean my save of at least the first issue I have noted?

Thanks

Post your mod list. And by the way, that issue with the guards dropping dead was due to Cobl Exhaustion.

This one is easy to answer. Your save was in a cell that no longer exists in your current setup. You ended up in the Imperial City because the Tiber Septim Hotel is the fallback cell the game uses to put you in when things like that happen.

Worth noting it can also do the same thing with some NPCs if they also happened to be in the same abandoned cell. It can make for some interesting surprises when entering the Hotel later
