Save file sizes

Post » Fri Jul 09, 2010 1:33 am

Okay, i know this as been addressed in other topics, but I couldn't find them, so I'm reposting.
My save files, like a lot of other people, are getting bigger with each save. They are now at 10 mb. How can I fix this? I've treid saving to a new file, didn't work. I wnet into safe mode, selected the 3rd option (don't remebr the name, something like restore files), it said things were corrupted, and fixed, but the game is still making saves over 10 mb. I've tried starting a new game, then loading the save file and resaving, that didn't work. I've removed the patch, disconnected my internet form my machine, and tried all of the above. no go. HOW CAN I FIX THIS????????

It'll just get bigger. No fix,no way.Sorry.And the bigger it is,the more laggy it gets and the longer it takes to save and load and freeze while doing so % rises...

there isn't a way to "fix" this that is just how it works, because the game saves all your locations, things you have put in containers, things your companions are wearing, things your companions are holding etc. etc. etc. with sandbox games like this that is what happens even with oblivion it happened just not as bad.

Does this happen across all platforms? I don't know much about this, it was never a problem for me with Oblivion and Fallout 3 on the Xbox. I can't really tell if I'm being affected by it with New Vegas, since the game is so buggy anyway.

I've peeked at the other support forums yes they have the same problem.

Every Save adds a little bit, even if you don't do anything.

So the only way to do anything at all is right from the start, never use the autosave feature. Save in the spots you actually want to save. Not that this will help in any major way, but it will let your save files be a bit smaller. Also helps with some of the freezing in game if you have Auto Save off.

Edit, turning Auto Save off later in the game will still help a little.

Someone did already answer this above, yes it happens cross platforms. But it also happened in Fallout 3 on all platforms and it did happen on Oblivion just not nearly as problem causing (I think I have had maybe 2 crashes ever with Oblivion and not really any slowdown the only real problem I ever had with Oblivion was that I had to return it like 3 times before I got a properly working disc).

i understand that file saves to grew a bit. but looking at all my old files from other games, including FO3, none of them are bigger then 7000, and the growth between them is not that much. just seems a little broken to me.

Oh it definitely is broken, do you have any of the DLC for FO3? My files weren't much bigger than I think 7-8Mb until I got the DLC.
