Save game bloating - What is it

Post » Sun Sep 04, 2011 12:56 am

I read it's when you have too many items stored somewhere, if it is, then I do have a lot of items in the Guildmaster's Quarters (Thieves Guild), however I did not seem to have all my save games corrupted + the game crashing until I installed the Unofficial Patch.

Any help?

Nah, a boatload of items in one location doesn't really have all the much of an affect. Might do in your framerate if they are all laying around the room though. How many hours on your game, and what size is it? What mods are you running? What are your save habits like? Do you overwrite files regularly? Rely on quick/autosaves?

The items are in storage (books and scrolls in the desk, armours, weapons and potions all on a chest).

I have 19.22.16 if that's the time (it's what says on the save file), but I have another account from before I installed the Patch.

It's the same as the one which I can load, around 2000k.

I saved quiet often.

I always save over an already present file, never quick saved didn't know it was possible, rarely load autosaves unless I die or something else and the most recent save is an autosave.

Thanks for the reply.

Ok I just messed up wrote like 1 entire paragraph of info it just disappeared and I created a new post sorry for that.

Try number 2:

I first noticed the issue after fast travelling to Bruma, entering Ongar's house, selling loot. After I left his house, it would crash. (note that's 2 autosaves I believe, one for travelling other for leaving Ongar's house)

Now, with autosave off, I can do all that just fine, but if I save it will crash.

Haven't tested saving outside of Bruma or any of that.

Maybe can it be because he has too many items in the inventory? I sold/sell all my items in the game to him whenever I need to, never/rarely go to anyone else. (All of Bruma's & Market District valuables were sold to him, not on one trip, not on 5 trips, though)

I have containers with literally thousands of items in them. (dump pit for stuff I didn't sell this time around from my various adventures.) I think it is more likely your save habits that are the issue. Overwriting save files, be they auto, quick, or hard saves, tends to corrupt the files. Gives ya some of the issues you are seeing. Try reverting back to an older save, and see if the same problem persists.

I think I have it.

Selling things found within the Knights of the Nine DLC to Ongar maybe?

I have a save just outside his house, and I can save on that and load it just fine.

I made a donation, put all the items I had on me at the time at his cupboard, maybe he'll think it was the Gray Fox for his loyalty, now I can play just fine and I even sold him items from the DLC, don't know what happened.

Anyway, I lost Sir Lathon in the wilderness. Not the usual "wait here" thing I read about often online, he was following me, but I took the harsh, mountain filled path to get to Underpal Cave, Sir Lathon never got to the cave *tragic ending music*.

Since he didn't, I didn't get the "This is the way Sir Roderick and I came" nor whatever he says when you free Lord Berich. He never made it to Garlas Malatar, either. *tragic ending music*

Any help?

He died, I'm guessing, because he was replaced by a Dark Elf knight with no name, any way to spawn him back? (only because I couldn't control his death in any way, even went to Garlas Malatar with one knight less).

Console command etc?
