Save Game Issue on Fresh Install

Post » Sat Oct 30, 2010 2:34 pm

Hi, I just did a fresh install of Oblivion. I took my saved game files from My Games/Oblivion from my old game before uninstalling and placed them in a safe folder. After the fresh install, I put them all back in My Games/Oblivion including the autosave.ess and autosave.bak file. My issue comes when I start up Oblivion now and go to load, it says I have no saved games. Anyone know how to resolve this or will I just have to start from scratch again?

Did you make sure you placed them in My Documents>My Games>Oblivion>Saves and not just in the root Oblivion folder?

Yah, that's where they are, they are appearing properly now, but again as with the issue I had in another thread, I cannot save, quicksave or autosave.
I have tried saving via console, and doing the player.SetFullActorName trick as well, to no avail, on a freshly reinstalled Oblivion.

Have you installed Oblivion outside of C:\Program Files yet? I just posted on another thread about your misinterpretation of the advice HeyYou gave.
Any game you can add content to should be installed in a user created Folder named Games on your hard drive, so Oblivion should be installed in C:\Games\Oblivion. This avoids UAC on Windows Vista and 7.

Yeah, was never the issue, the install has been outside of that directory from the very beginning. The file is installed in C:\Users\Azoroth\Favourites, which is where I had it installed previously with no issues until around 39hrs of gameplay with this save issue.

You do realise this issue might be caused because C:\Users\"Your Name"\Favorites\Oblivion means your saves are probably getting lost because Oblivion the game is installed in the same place as where your saves are supposed to go?
I am assuming your Favorites is the same folder location as Documents on a Vista OS, for example-

Oblivion on my PC
My Game is in>C:\Games\Oblivion
My Saves are in>C:\Users\"My Name"\Douments\My Games\Oblivion\Saves

On your PC is it
C:\Users\"Your Name"\Favorites\Oblivion for your game?
C:\Users\"Your Name"\Favorites\My Games\Oblivion\Saves for your saves?

Can you move the entire Oblivion Folder in Favorites to your C drive so it will be C:Oblivion? Try this and see if it fixes your saved games problem.

I tried to duplicate your problem by installing Oblivion into Favorites on my PC. I would follow HeyYou's advice, It has to be an ini problem related to UAC.
I need to reinstall my Oblivion in C:Games and then get some sleep.I hope you can find out what the problem is!

(Hard to troubleshoot the same problem in two threads)

Is it Oblivion not saving, or is it you don't see the save file? As in, when you save normally through the ESC menu and save in a new slot, does it say "Save Successful" ?

Try this - go in game, use the ESC menu to save, make note of the save slot used, exit game and use Search on your PC for "Save XX" (xx being the save slot #). I'd almost bet it's being redirected into some virtual folder somewhere.

Oblivion is not saving. I did a string search on the entire c directory for the name I saved it (testsave), searched for both testsave and testsave.ess and No matches were found.

Stick with one thread please.

Did you try the test I outlined in the other thread?
