Save system?

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 6:36 pm

I simply want to know why Bethesda approaches their save system from this point of view. There's no organization to it. If you have multiple characters, you have to be super careful not to save over their files.

Why was there no character select screen, or something similar, added this time around? I can't be the only person confused by this.

Agreed. If you are on pc, there is already a mod for it.

Saves are labeled with numbers, QUICKSAVE or AUTOSAVE.

How is hard to differentiate between 01 and 02? Can you not count?

Yeah, I just hate having to rely on a mod/third party app for something so fundamental. The game is amazing, but the save system is such a basic thing to me...

I'm fully capable. But why aren't the saves labeled as "(Character name) (save type) (save #)" at the very least? It's a fundamental part of the game and it's one of my very few complaints about Bethesda games in general.

That is a valid point. The system is still THERE, but the only way to use it is through use of the console (save ).

I guess they felt it wasn't necessary? I mean, I remember a time when every game, when saving, would prompt you for a save name. Now a days, games don't do that. :sadvaultboy:

I just keep folders in ym save file with my character names on them. Its a bit tedious having to find the valve/steamapps/blahblah blah, but I want to keep away from mods until the CS editor comes out.

If you're on a PC, you can just hit the tilde key to bring up the console and type: save MAGE or save THIEF, or whatever you want to name your save. No need for mods.

I know exactly what you mean. I so far have been staying away from creating another character on my xbox 360 because of the way the save system works. I assumed that this would have evolved from the way in was in Morrowind and Oblivion. It is getting hard to avoid the itch of creating a strict thief or mage character, and I know if I do I will end up saving over the wrong file. It will just happen. Something akin to Bioware would be very nice.
