I saved Brother Verulus...did you?

The reward is a hearty pat on the back (which you will have to administer to yourself).

You get him as a follower as well.

Killing Eola as soon as you see her is a bad idea. My character played along with her so she could root out all of the cannibals. She made the same mistake the Dark Brotherhood did, think I was an ally.
I let all the cannibals live in both playthroughs - out of sight out of mind, live and let live kinda' thing I guess. I suppose I should care more if I'm gonna' be good-ish - I guess I could always sick Fluffy on them at some point. :P

I never did this quest before. I hate Markath and its corrupt inhabitants. While not playing a 'good' guy, I certainly can't stand the level of decadence offered by that town.

I didn't know you could save him. Is that part of the plot or did you just go on a killing spree?

I think they mean did we:
1) kill Eola as soon as we saw her or figured out what she was up to or
2) the killing spree thing you mentioned. :P

So there is no option to actually tell the priest about the plot when you are sent to get him?

That's just dumb.

That's just Skyrim. So much I don't like about the Daedric quests in this game.

IDK about that for sure. I've only done 2 playthroughs.

On my warrior dude I did like the first part where I helped Eola in the Hall of the Dead, but killed her outside Reachcliff Cave. I don't recall an "or" option after Eola gave me the dialogue option to enter the cave.

On my assassin chick I already knew what she was up to and killed her in the Hall of the Dead.

When I went into that tomb and she started saying those strange things to me about my "hunger," I knew we weren't going to be friends. I told her how disgusting she was and she told me where to meet her and I guess she's still there waiting. Tomb cleared, quest done, Brother Verulus is fine.

I don't do all of the Daedric quests...only the ones on the brighter side of good and noble....well, not that A Night To Remember was so good and noble but you know. :tes:

You can tell him afterwards you used him as a bait. He will be happy that the cannibals are dead and will reward you with a leveled amount of gold (around 1000-1500 pieces)

Oddly enough attacking Eola will be counted as an assault, even it's a proper quest choice (Eola is set to essential before that). To avoid the assault charge (out of place imho) I used a frenzy poison and watched the cannibals battle between themselves. Eola is strong enough to take away all of them, even the two necromancer priests (odd choice for a necromancer to become cannibal... first they eat you, then they resurrect what's left? ). using a frenzy poison will also guarantee that, back in Markath, the relatives of the poor, deceased cannibals, won't be hostile towards you (ie the shopkeeper).

So far I completed most of the Daedric quests, except for three in which I went against the will of the Daedra: Namira's, Vermina and Molag Bal. I did Mephala's quest only to help the good Jarl of Whiterun but then I sealed the blade away in the Labyrinthian dragon masks shrine. Boethia's quest was borderline but, at least, she has a point: being selfish is entirely a matter of personal gain and ambition.

I don't mind being a little evil for my own gain but I hate when the only choice is "I am evil because I like to be mean and to hurt puppies". In that case, I'd rather turn down the offer or work against the ones that put me through useless ordeals.

It's a two-pronged system:
1) the thralls stay fresh if they are animated
2) you can keep them in line by threatening to eat them if they act up.

I ate him. Eola kinda put me in a trance just like him, and I didn't really know what to do in that situation. After I regained my senses, Eola and I took a little walk... to Boethiah's Pillar of Sacrifice. One ill turn deserves another as they say.

Same here. I basically did the quest to get Eola.
I couldn't think of anybody else to waste, but I needed that Ebony Mail! lol

Besides, I seriously think the good Brother is harboring a mercenary streak.

First time I played along only to get my Oblivion Walker achi.

Now I am going to kill them all, they just seem too much like forsworn to me, more heathen natives with their mad religions.

On one character I did all the daedric quests to get the achievement and felt quite dirty and disgusted afterwards.

Recently, I've taken out the cannibals, "accidentally" shot the priest of Boethia that someone else wanted me to "rescue", turned Asura's star into the Black Star, ignored the annoying talking dog and let him run off to whereever, and consoled Erandur to be willing to marry my character. I just loved this approach so much more.

What do you have against Azura?
