Saved files and lag?

I was wondering I heard that when you play skyrim say you drop somthing on the ground a iron dagger for exsample does the game always reload that info everytime in every dungeon, cave, etc in the game why doesn't bethesda update the game to automatically shut doors, delete random things after a set time, you can't really drop quest items most of the time if you did they could set it up for those items to go back to were they were found originally.I guess I'm just kinda wondering how this process work and can this be improved?

Yep, it can be improved.

And no, it won't be.

What I would like to know is if anyone has any tips to stop big save sizes and lagging? Is picking up weapons and depositing back on the corpses of those who dropped them (so that they clean up with the bodies) at all helpful? Do you need to do it with corpses in dungeons, especially ones you probably won't visit again? Or is it just ones in open world Skyrim and cities? That is if it helps at all. These are questions from a console player by the way.
