saving changes to cell

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 1:48 pm

I am having problems trying to save changes to cells.

Am used to the geck editor as have done alot of stuff with morrowind mods, it's not that different to escs.

But the geck just hates me for some reason.

I can edit the individual item data and those changes are saved to the active esp, but any items i put into the enviromental cells, (or move, or delete) won't save.
Get the 'save done' message, quit and go into fallout, the changes to items are there, but any changes to the cells are not.
Reload geck, and the edits to items are still there, but the changes to cells are not, some times there is a 'duplicate' cell with 1 item in it.

Have tried everything i can think of, but it is starting to give me a headache.

Even tried just useing fallout3.esm and making a new .esp, and running fallout with just those 2 files.

Anyone have any ideas?

It should work. Are you running geck as administrator? This might be messing with stuff, especially on windows vista/7. Right click the desktop icon for GECK. Click compatability, and check Always Run As Admin. Now open the geck and reload the esp, then save it, now with admin right. Let me know if this helps.

You might want to look at the result in FO3Edit to make sure everything is in there. Also, is FO3 patched to 1.7? If not, it could be that non-persistent stuff isn't working right over the lack of an ONAM list in the plugin's file header.

A lot of people have problems with the geck when installed under Program Files, when using vista or 7. Everything under Program files is protected and doesn't generally allow saving into it(which is why they cretaed the My games in user\documents\). But this can cause a headache when trying to find or save files. I recommend installing games in a c:\Games directory as a general rule to prevent this, which generally means using the "custom" installation option. Running as administrator will solve the problem and use can set your shortcuts to be run as adminstrator as well.

Fallout is installed to E:\Fallout 3\
and Geck is also in that directory.

Fallout patched to 1.7.
Geck 1.5.

Using FOMM to load/run fallout.

Edit, Just done a 2nd un/re-install and now can save changes to cells

Perhaps you could 'say' what cell you are editing. Some cells have many 'versions' of itself, depending on what part of the quest you are on will depend on which one you see in game.

For example, vault 101 has many versions...
