Saving changes to Esm files

Post » Thu May 09, 2013 12:58 pm

I'm trying to translate Project Nevada into Spanish. I cannot seem to save changes I make to its Esm files. The Geck wants me to create a new Esp or save the changes to an existing Esp. I can almost make all the changes I want to the text by using FNVEdit, however when there are long lines of text with spaces, the Geck is the best tool for this.

I've heard that you can't save changes to Esm's, but that makes no sense to me, since people create new Esm's all the time. There has to be a way to do this.

Thanks in advance.

I think you use FNVedit to CREATE esm's from existing esp's. You can't save changes to an esm using the GECK.

Yeah, I ran into this with Skyrim. I was afraid of that. Thanks for the quick reply.

There is a way to directly edit the main file, but you're probably better off just overriding what ever you need to with an ESP. Plugins internally flagged as ESMs cannot be "Active" in the GECK and odds are you'd not be able to open the main file as active anyway, much less save it.

Mod ESMs are generally created as ESPs and converted to ESM before release. To edit one directly with the GECK, its internal flag must be unticked while FNVEdit can directly edit 'em.
