Say NO to Arenas

Post » Sun Mar 23, 2014 11:15 am

they can have arenas only if the devs change nothing from the game to "balance" class to appease the arena players. also arenas dont have to be solely pvp you could add in something like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FmyK-ips2g

if you played any of the mini game arenas from the guild wars games that could be a good way to have arenas as well. i'm talking about where you were only given certain skills and it was more about doing something faster/better than your competitors than killing their characters before they killed you

I am not personally against arenas, but I do understand they want players to focus on Cyrodiil. That will be fine for me as long as there are some more smaller group oriented objectives added to Cyrodiil. Even the resources require at least 8-12 players, and I feel there should be more objectives for groups of 4.

Protect it from what? Other players?

Really, sometimes I just don't understand how you guys can justify your opinions based on what "could" happen from the implementation of a system that you have no knowledge of the details.

It's one thing to disagree with a proposal that clearly outlines the implementation strategy, but you are so adamant about it being bad based on your own manifestations.

It just sounds like you're crazy...

If Arenas are added (for the sake of variety I kinda hope they are) then an easy workaround would be arena specific skills and passives.

Level the playing field that way rather than rebalancing every other aspect of the game.

Good read, I think it applies to any game that was not designed at the start to include arenas, I am all for options, but they should be options that promote the health of the game over all for everyone, like some one posted, maybe just not a copy and paste of how everyone else has done them in the past.

To protect from other turn yet another game into something that is not, instead of enjoying the game as is. I am more open to 1 to 1 battles in the open world (sandbox way of doing it) then an area for that purpose (theme park way of doing the same thing).

The only arena's i would want is a PVE arena of some kind. Where players could enter and fight waves of mobs either as a group or solo and the rest could sit in the stands and watch. Maybe gamble on how long they last or something along those lines.

PVP arenas are fun for a while but there is just too much [censored]ing and or taunting going on for it really work well and stay fun in my opinion.

Ehm... not that's a bad video (its good) but it does not have anything to do with arenas. (its about themepark vs sandbox mmo's)

I agree for the most part.

I would just make one little concession; in a few out of the way places around the game world-add clearly marked PVP squares. Make it known anyone entering them is in a PVP area and does so at their own risk. Kinda like my dim memory of those types of areas in EQ(of course it was a LONG time ago that i played that game).

THIS. THIS IS WHY MMO'S svck ASS.

You need to watch this now.

In a way, this what this debate is about:

===

1) Theme way: make an area for PVP 1 on 1 battles only

2) Sand box way: let the 1 on 1 battles happen on their own with out ZOS holding one's paw (aka have an area design for it)

What is more fun way of doing that? Theme park or Sand Box way?

I say no to your saying no. An arena would in no way ruin the game. That's just moronic.
Idk where they would put an arena though. Imperial city is full of daedra.

I too wouldnt mind an arena as a pve experience. Maybe with a skill line geared toward solo play. A pvp arena isnt needed for 1v1 or even 4v4 people who enjoy that will still find it just as they did in daoc with a zone just as large.

I dont see why having more options is a problem. I think it might increase appeal for this game to a variety for players and that cant hurt the game in any way.

No, you missed it.

Not only does the video not address arenas, the video applauds EvE online which has no arenas at all.

You're trying to keep TES precious. However this is not TES, it's an MMO with a TES licence.

everything PVP in WOW svcked big time, now if they wanted to put DAoC type battle grounds that would be cool, But I hate the thinking and design thoughts of most of the modern MMOs with limited numbers and cueing for entry, I have better things to do than pay to stand in ques.

I am not saying add wow type arenas. But there have got to be more pvp options to sustain this game on the long run is all i am saying. Is cyrodil great? yes. Would i be happy if my only option was to do cyrodil 6 months from now ? No i wont.
