Scaling?

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 4:55 am

I was wondering what happens when the player levels up a certain skill.

Specifically, I am interested in:

Alteration
Conjuration
Destruction
Illusion
Restoration
One Handed
Two Handed
Light Armor
Heavy Armor
Sneak
Archery
Block

Do the skills alone impact the player's power? For example, imagine a player with level 1 destruction casting the Flames spell. Now imagine this same player reaches level 100, but has no perks in Destruction, and then casts the same spell. Will the spell do more damage? Cost less? How will it scale with destruction skill, separately from perks?

I would like to know, if certain spells, attacks, or abilities scale directly with player skill, what the specific values are. If they scale, by how much? Do they effect the actor values such as "destruction power mod?"

Does anyone know where I could find this information?

I think skill levels are used more or less for unlocking perks. Some skills may have other benefits from just leveling. You can probably find out here:

For example under Destruction, the Flames spell does 8 DPS. No mention of scaling aside from Perk effects:

Sounds like you need to start poking around in the CK and/or testing in game with console commands.

I know that "X Power Mod" actor values, for each of the 5 magic skills, do things to the spells. For example, conjuration power mod increases duration, destruction power mod increases damage. I also know that two handed and one handed skills increase weapon damage.

I do not know how to get exact numbers, but I can at least test in the game to see if the magic skills actually accomplish scaling by modifying the "power mod" actor values. But I would really, really like to know specific numbers.

I found a perk that looks to be responsible for some amount of scaling. But it scales off of actor values such as ConjurationMod or BlockMod.

What does that "mod" in the name of those AVs mean? Does that mean when you for example have an item that fortifies conjuration or block, and not your base amount of block or conjuration skill?

If so, then that means this perk is not what I am looking for, and something else is causing some scaling.

According to http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/

The powermod doubles the effect when set to 100, default is 0

DestructionPowerMod (DPM) - Modifies damage done.

Example if your destruction spell does 10 damage when DPM is at 0, if DPM is set to 50, the spell does 15 damage, and when DPM is at 100 the spell does 20 damage.

You can check this in game, without having to resort to long winded in-game testing.
Before modifying DPM, check the flames spell.

The description says
"A gout of fire that does 8 points per second"

Change DPM to 100 and that description changes to:
"A gout of fire that does 16 points per second"
