SCAR-Spectral Combat Assault & Recon

Post » Fri Jun 11, 2010 7:22 am

Long ago, before the nuclear fire there was a group of men and women who were chosen because of their tendency to see things other's didn't. They were formed by the U.S Government to combat the non-existent dreams and nightmares that plagued the Earth. They were given no names and their existence priveleges were taken away from them. After many successful missions and kills they ended up at their biggest target yet; and this target would be their last.

As they entered the lair of the greatest of their enemies the nuclear bombs fell upon the Americas. They were trapped inside with a being that drew their energy from them, bit by bit, until they were nothing but starved beings who were begging for death. The thing was not merciful though and made them live for a very long time before they eventually died. To this day, that being still lurks in it's lair; although due to a single fool of the common Wastes... This being has been let free.

The year is 2286, and creatures unlike any others are flitting across the Wastes. They kill anything they see and svck their life force out of them; unknowing to anyone they are actually bringing the humans life force to their master. These creatures of shadow want nothing but to kill and destroy; and this is what they are getting. A group of people brought together by the remaining people of the Wastes have all come together, these people all have different properties to the others.

When they see these shadow beings they don't see death, they just see shadows that they can kill. These people are just like those people that were trapped in the creature's lair. The only way to stop all the terror that is now being beheld across the Wastes is to finish the job that those men and women started. After raiding a hidden base of operations of the original group they found out that they had just named themselves before their final mission.

Along with this knowledge of the name of the squad they found weapons and armor the likes that were never seen. Weapons that were normally seen had attachments that were rarely ever seen among the Wastes. The armor was in perfect condition and was made specially to hold against the shadow beings. Even worse as they founded this place it seemed a deadly plague had managed to start from the shadows as well; this thing was changing humans into creatures that refused to die.

With their heads held high the men and women emerged from the bunker in D.C knowing who they were finally.

They were members of SCAR- Spectral Combat Assualt & Recon.

Luckily, you are a member of this group and get to have fun with getting either killed or killing the biggest enemy in the Wastes.

---------------------------------------------------------

Nuclear Anamoly Mk. II

Name: Dax Harl
Age: 29
Race: Caucasian
Personality: Dax is jittery, suspicious, and very paranoid when in a group. He's plagued by many occupying thoughts that he can't get out of his head, making him susceptible to emotional instability and panic. He tries to remain calm during any normal situation, but lately he's distanced himself more and more from traveling partners in order to keep his whirling mind settled. Alone, he's still panicky and hyper-active, but is able to conceal it much better than he would in a troupe.
Occasionally, he'll go borderline crazy from the stress of things around him, throwing any concern for others safety to the wind. This feeds into a steadily worsening temper.

Appearance: Dax stands tall and lanky, not too bulky or strong-looking by any means. His arms and legs are both distinctly skinny, but his large hands and feet combined with long sleeves often make up for this. He's got an obvious skin pigment mutation around his wrists and splashed onto his legs that make them appear burnt black, with the veins very close and visible to the skin. His face is nervous looking, with a mop of disheveled, damp black hair on top and wide eyes.

Weapons: Modified 10mm Sub-Machine Gun- Has an extended clip, a tan/gray streaked camo paint job, and a second barrel on the bottom of the first that shoots another stream of rounds, allowing for greater spread and up-close damage. Also has a grip for better handling.
Modified Combat Shotgun- Normal looking, but with a bright red painted clip round and a haz-mat symbol etched onto the side. Unique in that it fires incendiary rounds that ignite a target depending on proximity and amount of bullets that hit. For example, if it gets nicked by one, then nothing will be happened, but if it's directly in front of the barrel it'll go up in flames.
Modified Axe- An Axe painted tan and gray, and also has a specialty flash light attached via tape to the top of the handle that releases an instant flash if the trigger on the device is pulled. Can stun some enemies.

Armor: Specialty Recon Armor- A fitting uniform of recon armor, except it's combined with the Radiation Suit Dax used before hand. The suit is worn first, with the hood's tubing and face mask cut out and removed except for the oxygen pipe that leads to a mask worn over Dax's mouth. The recon armor is on top, with the jet black briast and black plate worn over the front of the Suit, along with the leg, feet, and arm guards. The helmet is chopped in half and molded into a hardy glove that Dax wears. The hood of the Radiation suit is kept on by multiple strips of duct tape binding it. The pipe on the suit has had it's fuel removed and replaced by Dax's own 'Life-saver' gas.
This combination allows for both some radiation resistance, defense, and agility.
Psychic Ability: Primal Amplification- With the help of calming Dax's mind using his home made drug, he can slowly use his psychic abilities to enhance an area of his physical being by allowing more and more primitive instinct to take over, enhancing both a physical trait and an emotion. He can increase his strength greatly, turning him into a mindless juggernaut over time, or can make his eyes focus greatly on one object. The draw back to all this power is that it makes him unstable and practically makes him a blood thirsty monster himself if it's used in the wrong situation. It also leads to massive mood swings once the rush is over.

Bio: Dax was originally born in a small Scavenger settlement. His father and mother were both traders by nature, and stuck around in the town long after most merchants had moved on. Over time, it became a bustling center of trade as Dax began to grow into adolescence.
He had a normal child hood, almost oblivious to the dangers of the Wasteland as he never moved and his family never had to relocate. He was taught many tools of the trade by his father, such as how to take apart a gun and replace the parts, although he couldn't grasp all of it.

Once reports started coming in through word of mouth of strange creatures nearby, the other townsfolk contemplated moving. The Scavengers and traders of the town convinced them it was fine to stay, and even upped the security a bit.
But, it didn't matter. Once Dax turned 20, still intending on spending all of his days in his home town, the settlement was attacked brutally by unknown creatures that attacked like zombies on adrenaline. The entire population was slaughtered in that one night, and even though they put up a fight, it never worked. Iggy suffered a permanent alteration to his skin pigment when he dropped a grenade and it exploded along with his Radiation Suit, dying his leg and arms a deep black.

He managed to escape purely because he was near the borders on that day, and ever since he'd become hell bent on getting his revenge...and facing his own fears. It was only when he uncovered the secret of S.C.A.R did he realize that his contact with the creatures had been more beneficial than he thought.

However, it takes far more energy to use on very large groups or to create something complex, causing Edward to quickly mentally tire in such situations, a weakness that he is working on.

Bio: Micheal wasn't born in the Capital Wasteland. Instead, he was born in the ruins of New York City to the north. When he turned 20, he decided to leave his settlement to explore the wastes for better opportunities. Along the way, he awakened his mental abilities when he was almost eaten by a Yao Guai while exploring New Jersey. Eventually, his travels lead him to the Capital Wasteland, where he set up shop in Canterbury Common's serving as a caravan guard, a job he kept for nine years.

This all changed when his caravan was attacked by strange creatures unlike anything he'd seen before en route to Rivet City. Micheal used his powers to fend off the creatures, sending them running elsewhere. Once they got to Rivet City, Micheal found out that a group of people with similar powers were in the area. Deciding to bid his caravan farewell as he didn't know how they'd treat him now that his secret was out, Micheal went after the group using the meager information he'd acquired.

I squinted as I looked out at the new dawn, the red sun rose from it's resting place to bring light upon the Wastes; it shouldn't be red. We knew that we were stretching out time as it was but we just weren't ready for all this, we couldn't do it so quickly! Shaking my head I turned around to look at my squad, they were all looking a bit nervous but some had courage in their eyes, a few had fear. I brought my hand down to my pistol and looked them all over as they mulled around.

A few of them really caught my eye, a man with short dark blonde hair seemed to be the man I was looking for at the front. A man with bandages all over his face seemed to be like he could be very useful as well. I rummaged around through the pack at my side to find some papers, ruffling through them I found the notes. Reading through it all quickly I gave a small cough as I came across one; but I quickly discarded it and continued reading. My eyes growing wider I finished the lot.

With a small laugh I looked at all the people in front of me, I raised my hands and took a small bow, "Welcome to SCAR, Spectral Combat Assault and Recon; our mission is to enter a place that has been plaguing the Wastes with creatures of horror. Now, you were all chosen for different reasons, but mainly it's because your all different. You all have powers that normal people can only DREAM of, I'd laugh to think what some people back before the War would think about us."

Hearing a few muffled laughs I continued, "Well, this is all we know about the thing that we have to take out; it's causing a virus to spread throughout the people in the Wastes. As well as that, it seems to be controlling the shadows that come out at night and prey on poor innocent lives. We are going to enter the lair of this [censored] thing and end it slowly and painfully. From records that we managed to scrounge up at the facility it seems that a squad was sent in before the war as well."

With a small sigh I muttered out, "From what we've gathered, these men and women were three times better trained than us with better weapons and a better understanding of what this thing was. Obviously they didn't complete their mission so we'll have to see what happens; all we truly know is this isn't going to be easy. Of course I would say if you didn't want to take part you should leave, but I can't really ask that; because I need all of you. I hope that all this can work," I took a quick breath.

"Any questions you have you should ask now, we'll enter the building in approximately half an hour, get to know each other a little better. If any of you need me or want to ask anything, I'll be waiting in my tent over here. I'll say right now, good luck and good tidings; I don't know if we'll ever have a normal conversation after this so use this time wisely." I trailed off and nodded at all of them in turn. Locking eyes with the girl with violet hair and eyes I nudged my head towards my tent.

Quickly turning I walked the few metres to the small canvas structure and stepped inside, sitting at my desk I ran my hand through my hair and sighed.

I mostly ignored Andrew's speech, it was hard to pay attention while having a conversation with myself. Not exactly myself, but a coexisting being living inside of me. My palms flared up with smoky blue clouds as I checked my mental amplifiers to see if they worked. It wasn't necessary to check the machine gun strapped on my back; I never used the damned thing anyways. Andrew finished speaking and returned to his tent.

"You're always talking to me at the worst times. I need to listen to this stuff, it's important. You yourself should know this better than any other SCAR member. Maybe you wouldn't be stuck manifesting yourself through me and would actually let me have a normal dream for once." I must've looked insane talking to myself.

We both know you wouldn't have bothered to listen regardless. The difference is, I have the skill to back up my mistakes. You don't. Can't even set up a barrier for 30 seconds without crumbling in a ball on the floor and passing out.

I shrugged and surged my palms, sending a 2 foot jet of psycho kinetic energy spring in the air. My palm burned a bit from it, but the protective lining on my gloves did wonders. I started to svck on my palm a bit in a lazy attempt to stop my skin from blistering.

The people around me were a varied lot, but I could feel a connection. I hadn't been around others with psychic abilities since my original SCAR days, before the war. The cryogenic freezing I went through really dampened my abilities. Luckily, I had Adam to keep me company for nearly a century. For the other century, I started to wish he would shut up. Being blind and playing "I Spy" did not mix.

"I'm still working on them, you know. I'm lucky that whenever I get into a bad situation, I can always count on you. Though my prime days are over for now, my abilities will come back to their full potential. What I can do right now will work good enough for me." I always had a habit for talking out loud as if Adam were standing in front of me.

Your expectations were always pretty low.

Letting out a slow sigh, I walked off towards the direction of Andrews tent. If there was going to be a line forming, I was going to make sure I was first in it.

Claire moved immediately after the signal given by Andrew. He obviously wanted to talk to her, and she had some things to say to him as well. She had to concentrate to keep from sensing the emotions around her, something she had always found difficult to do when new people were around, and there was always a chance that the emotions she felt would overwhelm her and cause her to behave erratically. It was the reason she had left the Brotherhood four years ago. She had found a home in the wastes. It was a sanctuary where she could be alone. A place where the only emotions were her own. But that all changed two days ago when the sodliers had arrived They had told her they needed her help because of the ability she possessed. She didn't want to go. She had spent a large portion of her life suppressing the curse but she couldn't refuse a request for help from the Brotherhood, especially after they had given her so much.

Claire entered the tent to see Andrew sitting at his desk. It had been more than ten years since she had seen her brother and she ran to him embracing him tightly. After a few moments she pulled back and slapped him in the face.

"Hijo de puta!!!" She was happy to see him but that didn't change the fact that she felt abandoned. "Where in the hell have you been?!?" She was shouting at him and really didn't care if the others could hear her. "You leave without so much as a goodbye and I don't hear anything from you for Ten Years!!!!."

Andrew started to speak but Claire's hand came faster than the words slapping him a second time. "Do you have any idea what it was like to not know if you were dead or alive??!!??" A single tear rolled down her cheek. "Wondering all those years where you were and why you left?" The tears were starting to come freely now but her eyes still held a look of anger. "For the last few years I actually thought you were dead and then the Brotherhood come to me for help and I find you here!!!" Her hand came up a third time and smacked him again. Andrew's cheek was turning red from the repeated slaps. "Was it your idea to bring me here?? You know how much I hate this curse and now I'm here because of it!!!! What in the hell were you thinking??!!??!!??"

She ceased yelling at him and waited for the answer.

After the third slap I could feel my cheek stinging a lot worse then it did about three minutes ago. With a quick sigh I looked Claire in the eyes, "Well, it goes from a hug to three slaps, seems like your still the feisty sister I left behind," I gave a small smile, "sorry for leaving like I did. Lyons gave me no choice in the end, you know how it all turned out; he had different goals to the rest of us as you know. I didn't have much of a choice in the end Claire... I'm sorry."

Continuing to look her in the eyes I continued, "I didn't drag you into this Claire, I swear, the idiots immediately thought of you when they realised they needed people with psychic abilities. You always had something of an ability, but I guess it only recently came out didn't it?" I shook my head, "look, if anything I was the most against you coming along. As soon as I heard you were alive I was overjoyed, but I didn't want you to come here; even if it was the last chance to see you."

Feeling my eyes water I drew my hand from my forehead to my chin, "I don't know if we'll actually be able to bluff our way through this, no matter how good we are. We only have one guy on the team that has a clue at what might actually be in there and most people think he's crazy. Voices in his head they say, but it's not that bad really. Look, Claire; I'm sorry for every time I screwed up, I owe you a lot and... Well, I guess the only way to repay you is through this."

Taking a quick breath I continued, "Anytime that you think something bad is going to happen, just call for me, and I'll be there for you okay? I don't know what's going to happen in there but I know that it's not going to be pretty and it's not going to be anything that we're prepared for. As well as that, if I die you'll be the one in control of the team; not because your my sister but because I know your abilities more than anyone else. I hope you still know how to swing your swords and break necks sis."

With a small grin I felt a tear roll down my cheek, I laughed quietly, "Did you hear? The Outcasts took me in after I left the Brotherhood, then after a bunch of years I fell in with the Enclave; it was an interesting experience. I spent most nights praying for you Claire, hoping that you wouldn't do anything stupid and you'd be safe in the Brotherhood. Oh and if you want to know what I was thinking when I left... I think it was... 'Goddamit why does Lyons have to kick me out when I have a sister here?'"

Smiling again I moved a bit closer to Claire and embraced her for a short time. Then I stepped back and looked into her eyes, "Violet huh? Always suited you."

"Violet huh? Always suited you." Claire's brother was looking into her eyes.

Claire felt a wave of emotions roll over her, emotions that were her own. She had no worry that Andrew's feelings would have an ill effect on her? She didn't need to read his feelings to know what they were. She was still crying a little and was starting to smile.

"You look horrible hermano." She started to laugh a little and hugged him again. She didn't want to lose him again, didn't want to let go.

"We have a lot to talk ab.." Claire never finished the words as she felt the emotions overtake her.

She was especially vulnerable now because of how she felt at finding her brother. It was the reason she had learned to control her own emotions. Her body convulsed violently as she was able sense everyone outside the tent. The strongest of these was coming from someone close. It was a strange and terrifying sensation for her. It seemed to be two distinct sets of emotions emanating from a single mind. Claire knew that this must be the person Andrew was talking about. She was in pain and felt like her mind was starting to fracture. She held Andrew with all of her remaining strength to keep from falling to the ground. Claire forced herself to regain some sense of control on the feelings she was experiencing. Still in pain she looked up into Andrew's eyes.

"You have company." She forced the words, the pain showing in her voice, as the tent flap opened, and the one who's feelings she had experienced, entered the tent.

After looking at Claire for a few seconds and looking at the man standing at the tent entrance I gave a small smile, "Well, hermanita, I guess it's up to you whether you want to stay or not. Be careful with your emotions, remember to keep your mind your own; don't fall into someone elses madness." I looked up at the man, recognising him instantly, "Ah, Barry, it's good to see you; what is it you wanted to ask? As I've heard and read you have someone else in your head."

With a small chuckle I detached my left arm from Claire's side and waved at Barry, "Come in, come in, you've beaten all the others and we have a decent amount of time. What is it you wanted to know? Or we could just talk if you really wanted, time is short but long it seems; oh and I wouldn't mind learning a little about your friend in your head." Tapping the side of my own head with a grin. I moved a little bit back and looked into Claire's violet eyes, I wished I could talk to her without using words.

Knowing my emotions right now wouldn't be difficult so obviously she didn't need to get into my head and learn how I felt. She would feel everyones emotions anyway. Claire looked a little drained and in pain due to the different emotions around her affecting her own; I quickly lead her to my chair so she could sit. After watching her fall into it I turned to Barry, "So, let's not stand on ceremony, you can either lean on the tent or sit on the bed, I don't really mind."

With a small cough I put my hand into my pocket and pulled out a scrap of paper, folding it out I quickly read it:

Well, Mr. Hannon, it's good to see you accepted to lead this expedition into the depths of hell!
This is your chance to pay back Elder Lyons for your incompetence, make it out and you'll be welcomed back.

-Tristan

With a scowl I crumpled it up and dropped it the ground next to my desk, looking back at Barry I turned my scowl into a frown; "Time may be something we have but not in great amounts, speak while you can."

I eyed the couple suspiciously. The younger woman looked exceptionally tired and worn out, and with all that yelling it wasn't too far fetched to imply foul play. Andrew sat at a makeshift desk, sort of like the one I was interviewed at before being taken to SCAR training. I started flicking the smoky blue energy from my hands, letting out small, controlled discharges.

"Barry... no, call me Adam. Wait! No, Adam isn't my name. It's Bear. Everyone calls me Bear. Adam gets a kick out of trying to get people to call me by his name." I chuckled slightly, but knew I looked absolutely nuts. I switched my eyes over to the violet haired girl, paning them back and forth between her and Andrew. "I guess time really is a factor here." I smiled a bit.

Adam's began to manifest itself as a smoke, curling around my arm, slowly protruding towards the woman. I quickly shook my arm about, disrupting the manifestation. This wasn't a good time for games.

Quit being such a [censored].

"I came here to talk to you about the facility. I'm sure you've read off of my record, my absorption problem..." I held my hand on the back of my head, slightly nervous to talk. "it's not that I want to, but it just happens. I'm more vulnerable to possession, but for some reason, it always fails. They're stuck inside of me, I can feel it all. That how I got Adam here. He's the only one who talks, really. The rest just come in through my dreams."

The more I spoke the crazier I sounded. Maybe, after getting inside of the facility and combating the shadows, the others might understand a bit more. After a few absorptions they would see what actually happens.

"I don't want to be a burden. If I absorb too much, the mental anguish could incapacitate me. It may be better for the rest of the members for me to provide support with barriers and lifting, but... it's your call as leader."

With a quick nod I took in all the information as quickly as possible; thinking about what to say back to him. Looking at Claire sitting down I looked at Bear, with a small grin I said, "Well, Adam seems to know what he's talking about and so do you... Bear, well, I wonder how all of this is going to turn out in there. If you get possessed too much, I'm sure we can find something in there to help you. It's not like this 'Adam' died for a cause that was pointless, no?"

After a quick cough I looked at Claire again, she looked particularaly worn out, "Oh, Bear, this is my sister, Claire; or my hermanita as we call it in Spanish. As like everyone here she has an ability that should be able to help us in there, but I didn't really want her to come along. Either way, Bear, I want you to know that I trust you and I know what's going on. I've read all about what they know of you and what you've told them; you're definitely going to be important in there."

"You know more than anyone else does, hell, I'm not even sure if anyone else wants to be here. But, they have no choice. Your absorption problem will be fine I'm sure, they're only absorbed if they make contact with you; true? Well, I'm sure we can shoo them off before they manage to get into you, as well as that theirs gotta be something in that hell. Anyway, I think that I need to talk to my sister again for a second, tell the next person to come in in a couple of minutes."

Shaking my hand I brought it to my face again quickly, sighing lightly, "Although anything else you want to say go ahead and do it."

Claire could hear her brother's voice, but it was muffled and echoing in her ears as if coming from across a great chasm. She was in pain and she put her head down on the desk. She concealed her face with her arms, this Bear could not see her eyes. It was another side effect form the accident that had awakened the abilities within her. When Claire would exert herself to control the emotions, her eyes would turn completely black. It was something that caused her no discomfort, though it did tend to freak other people out. She pushed herself harder than she ever had to before. She could feel something reaching out to her. She built the wall around in her mind. The wall to keep everything out, and keep herself concealed.

Claire reached around and untied her hair, letting it fall about her shoulders. Even as the pain subsided and her strength was returning, she knew it would take more than a few minutes for the colour to return to her eyes. She pushed herself up from the desk letting her hair cover her face, giving the appearance that a strangely coloured mop had been placed on her head

Claire sat up a little straighter and peered out form beneath her hair. She looked at her brother and Bear. She couldn't help feeling preoccupied with the thought of whatever seemed to be reaching for her. She knew that whatever it was, it was coming from Bear.

Darius looked as one of the women entered the tent, he had the temptation to see what they were up to, but decided against it, invading people's privacy wasn't the best think to do. Darius looked at the others, another women, a ghoul and someone who wasn't appeasing to look at.

Darius hadn't wanted to be here, he had been pretty much been brought here at gunpoint, his escort keeping to their internal speakers, Darius had to get into one of their minds to find out what they wanted him for. Darius never got information until now, and it had not made him feel any better. The idea of fighting some creatures which shouldn't, couldn't exist was frightening, and Darius expected to die soon.

Looking at Bear with a certain look in my eyes obviously made him want to scarper; he quickly nodded and turned around, heading back through the tent flap. I turned back to Claire with a sigh, "Well, that was interesting, are you okay?" She gave me a small nod, I noticed her eyes behind the thicket of hair; they were black. Thoughts started racing through my mind but I noticed a small violet tinge on the outside, creeping in towards the center. This was interesting.

Coughing again I turned away from her, I felt something coming up my throat but after numerous coughs I felt a little better. I'd started to feel sick ever since the shadows had escaped, with a small tug at my mind I looked back at my sister; but something happened. She dissapeared in a white light and ashes fell to the ground, I blinked once or twice and I heard a voice emanating through my head. It whispered things I couldn't hear and said things loudly that I couldn't understand.

Very quickly it all changed as it tuned into my ears, 'Oh don't be afraid Andrew, it's just me; your nightmare that you made. You remember? Right? That thing that killed your Father, a Deathclaw, that must've been so sad for you! It'll be even sadder when I take your sister from you in the same way. I quickly hit myself in the face and the voice left, my sister suddenly reappeared back in the chair with a flash with a worried look. I took a quick breath and looked at her.

With a smile I muttered, "Well, it looks like I'm another one who's going mad, either way; theirs something I wanted to give you." I turned to the right a little and moved to the end of the small bed in the tent. There was a small padlocked footlocker, pulling out a key I quickly placed it into the lock and twisted it left and right. It fell off with a crack and I opened up the small container. Pulling out a lovely 10mm pistol, quickly followed by another; these were something she would recognize.

I turned around and threw the two weapons onto my desk, right in front of Claire, "You remember those right? You got one each a few days before I ran for the hills, a birthday gift from me no less! It turned out you left them at the Citadel, luckily, the idiots were nice enough to leave them to me. Their yours again of course, oh and they decided to give me another small gift which I give to you," I quickly said. Ruffling around the small space I found what I was looking for.

Pulling out a few clips for the pistols I threw them onto the desk as well, followed by a small piece of well folded paper. I smiled at her, "This was the one thing I could find from Mum and Dad to us, I never showed you it because I was selfish and kept it to myself every night. I'm amazed you didn't notice that I never fell asleep until you had. You keep it and read it later, now's not the time; it's something you have to keep for the exact right moment. That moment will be clear in the future."

With a small grin I got up off my haunches and walked over to her, her eyes were violet all around the oustides now, I gave a small laugh. Moving forward I embraced her again, "Remind me to get something nice for your birthday this year," I whispered into her ear with a light laugh. Stepping back I looked at her again, "And remind me to ask about what you did while I was off running around with men in power armor. But for now I think we should change matters to something serious or rest."

Andrew had tossed the guns on the desk in front of her along with the clips and a note. Claire didn't like guns but that wasn't the reason she had left them behind. They were left behind out of anger. It was the anger she felt towards her brother for leaving, something she had always regretted.

Claire had her brother back and wanted to feel the happiness and love that lay in her heart. Wanted to but couldn't. It was the price she had to pay for her curse. In order to control it, she had to bury her emotions deep within herself. At this moment this was extremely difficult to do because of Andrew's appearance after ten years. He had left before her abilities appeared. She realized he had never seen how she reacted to the emotions. He didn't know the danger these emotions posed for her. Claire could still remember back when she first started to feel other peoples emotions. The time she nearly died. She could remember the wave of sorrow that washed over her. The pain of loss emanating from one of the people at the Citadel. She remembered it vividly, but at the time, she didn't understand it. She felt such dreadful sorrow that she went into the kitchen and tried to slash her wrists. Fortunately the cook was there at the time and stopped her. But from that point on, she knew that she was cursed, Cursed to live a life unable to feel. Claire couldn't be sure how Andrew would react to her once he saw he repress all feeling. She would become cold and clinical and he had never seen that side of her.

Claire could tell that something was also affecting Andrew in an adverse way. He had slapped his own face almost as if to wake up from some dream. Although she was concerned, she couldn't show it and they really didn't have a lot of time. Claire picked up the note and put it into a pocket on her armour. This wasn't the right time to read it. She picked up the ammo and examined the clip. She removed one of the bullets and examined it closely. It appeared to be a normal bullet to her eyes, but then she didn't know much about firearms, preferring the artistic strokes of her blades. Claire replaced the bullet and shoved the clip into the weapon. She held the gun in her hand and looked up at Andrew

"Thank you. You don't happen to have holsters for these?" She said the words almost monotone. There was almost nothing in the voice that implied any emotion.

Andrew reached into the footlocker and tossed the holsters onto the desk. She stood up and attached them to her belt. She loaded the second gun and placed them in the holsters. Claire walked to the flap of the tent. Opening it she turned and looked at her brother.

"I will see you outside."

Claire exited the tent and braced herself for the emotions of the others who had assembled. The wall stayed strong in her mind and she looked over the rest of the motley group which had assembled here. Her attention was drawn to one of the men. He was about an inch shorter than her and his hair was short and blondish. It wasn't his appearance that she noticed. It was the body language and the look on his face. She recognized it because she, like him, also did not want to be there. She decided that she needed to know who she was working with and he would be the best person to start with. At least she knew they had some common ground. She started walking towards him and tied her hair back, her eyes had returned to normal.

Claire didn't know how this man would react to her, but she had to start somewhere. She stopped in front of him and spoke. Her words had a clinical tone to them.

"Hello. My name is Claire Hannon and since we are going to be working together I think it's a good idea for us to learn a little about each other."

Darius nodded, "Most likely right," Darius agreed, he eyed Claire, getting a judgement on her, she was younger then he was. "Well, I'm Darius, Darius Webber," he finally told Claire his name. "I'm suprised there are so many people here, seems there are more of us with "gifts"." Darius said look around at the rest of the group, "And here I was thinking I was alone in this."

Darius had always kept his ability to himself, only a few others knowing, but when the activities started, those he had told got scared of what was happening, and just blamed the most rational thing they could think of and started to spread it around, since he had not had it well off, it still hadn't ment he wanted to be here.

Dax had been at the edge of the group, tapping his foot against the cold ground as the speech went on. Once the crowd dispersed, he started pacing nervously around his own spot in the camp, muttering to himself and occasionally putting a hand to his head.
"It's about time...it's about time..."
He circled in place, kicking up dust as his thoughts began to swirl through his mind.
What kind of leader is that?
He raised his head and stared curiously at Andrew as he entered the tent, then quickly scowled and resumed his walk, beginning to bounce his axe in his arms as an obvious gesture of being nervous.
He didn't know ANYTHING about these people, especially the one they all had to rally under. Could he be trusted?
Dax shook his head and mumbled again, steeped in a conversation with his own occupied mind. "No...nobody can be trusted."
But he had no choice. He'd known very, very little about this mission at all, and although he had wanted to split off immediately after discovering his own significance, he knew that he wouldn't survive.
Still, his eyes flitted to each member as they went their own ways for their free time, and he couldn't stop himself from judging them. He didn't like working with other people, and his paranoia was leaking through.

As a way to calm himself, he took a seat on a rock at the border of the camp and began cleaning his combat shotgun obsessively. He'd already done it twice today, but it was the only thing that could distract him.
Slowly, his heart beat started to decrease in it's rapid activity, and he sighed with relief. Suddenly, there was another feeling coming over him. He'd felt it before. A massive string of beats in his body, tightening his muscles and straining his brain. With a shaky hand, he flicked a switch on a small device attached to his hip. The hiss of gas that always emanated from him stopped, and he shuddered as his returned to his relaxed state.
His powers had become known to him just when he'd met up with the group, and controlling it seemed to be the hard part.

And here I was thinking I was alone in this." Darius spoke the words.

Claire knew what it felt like to be alone. She distanced herself from everyone she had and everything she knew because of her "gift" was the word Darius used. To her the word implied something you wanted to have, and although she had accepted her ability, she did not want it. She examined him closely, regarding him curiously as if she didn't understand him.

"I am an empath." she spoke the words with a friendly tone but still seemed devoid of emotion. "That means I am cursed to feel the emotions of those around me." She tilted her head slightly and continued. "The emotions I sense can overpower me if I am not careful and as a result, I cannot live life as a normal person. She paused for a moment so he could take in the information.

Claire was blunt and to the point. She didn't believe in trying to hide the truth in this situation. All these people had something in common with her, and she wanted to know what they could do. She assumed that Darius would be surprised at how forthcoming she was and was hoping he'd do the same

"So Mister Webber, tell me of your curse."

Darius nodded, though suprised at the forthcoming of herself, "That is a curse," Darius said, "That must be tough on you." Darius knew that his power could be a burdern once people knew, but hers was something else. "I could see what you see, and hear what you hear, it's useful when in the wastes, still rather be normal, something you most likely desire."

"You must have strong self control to keep yourself from going insane." Darius said, "How do you put up with that?"

Claire thought about Darius' words for a moment. The question was one she had never asked herself before. It also seemed like this man seemed to sympathise with her, something she found in so few of the people she met.

"I don't really know how I put up with it. I just do." It almost seemed that Claire was talking to herself and not to Darius. "I have contemplated taking my own life on a few occasions to put an end to this. All I can do is exist and not allow myslf to feel." She was looking at Darius again.

Claire gave im an inquisitive look. "There is something different about you Mister Webber. Everyone else judges me but you seem to understand something of what I am." She paused again, a tiny smile appeared on her lips. "Perhaps now I could have an answer to the question you are trying to avoid, if you please."

"Just call me Darius, Mister Webber makes me sound like some businessman, which I'm not," Darius said her, a weak smile on his face. "As I said, I can see what you see, hear what you hear by focusing on your mind," Darius told her, "Some people think it's a problem, mainly because they think I would invade their privacy." Darius sighed, "And I do not intend to. Just looking through someone else's eyes can make my head spin."

Darius looked up, "We are all outcasts," Darius said, "In our own minds, or to others, we're different. And we can't hide from that fact."

Ethan listened to Andrew's speech, while observing his blue tinted outline speak to the other's. He stood in the far back, being the most odd out of all of them. He was a Ghoul, he had no eyes, and covered his face. At least no one has spoken to him yet, they may all still think he's just an unfortunate person.

He "watched" as a group of people entered the leader's tent, and eavesdropped on them. It was nothing important to Ethan, so he gave up using the energy. He sat, as some entered and left Andrew's presence. He could only assume they were just asking him questions.

Finally, he decided he'd go introduce himself to the group leader. He walked to the tent, and felt a girl walk by him. He turned, and watched her walk away. He couldn't read her, like he could with the others. Each person's shade was a different color through Ethan's way of seeing. Certain things showed emotions, like fear, or excitement. He could sense both those in the group he was in.

He walked into the tent, and put his hand out to Andrew. He saw something scurry around on the floor, that others could not see. A small Molerat poked it's head out, it was completely harmless like most ghosts he saw. He chuckled at the sight of the puny rodent.

"I'm Ethan." He said in his raspy voice, "It's a pleasure to work with you."

A small line of people had come in and out of Andrew's tent, making me lucky to be the first there. Claire had gone and struck up a conversation with that Darrius fellow, and one of the other unknown team members was pacing nervously. All he needed was to be talking to himself, and he'd be a certified schizo. I eyed Claire a bit, her scene in the tent was peculiar, as if she hated me being there. A blue smoke began to curl around my arm once more, nudging towards the building in front of us.

Go over there. Just let me feel it again. It's been so long, there's so many memories here. Come on, walk over.

I smiled slightly and reluctantly walked over the eerie building. As I raised my hand, the cloud of smoke turned to almost a gel or liquid substance, darkening into a transparent blue. It formed over my own palm, slightly bigger than my hand. My fingers ran across the hard exterior, brushing away paint chips and grime. Adam wouldn't be very happy going inside of here, but he would be happy to at least come back.

As many sad memories as there were here, it would still be our job to go inside no matter what. Hopefully, we would do a better than last time. The feeling of depression washed over me as if someone dumped a bucket of icy water over my head. The liquid hand had dispersed again, retreating back into me. My hand remained on the outside using it to hold me up. A blue glow emitted from under my palm. In my old days, I could've toppled this wall with a single surge. Now I could barely lift a car.

I dropped my forehead onto to the wall, sitting there silently, contemplating getting a nap in before we entered the facility. I wasn't tired now, only flooded with emotions. Adam's and my own were intertwined, a drawback of our symbiotic relationship. He was still reliving his death those years ago.

"I believe in this group. There's more than last time, yes, but there is a bigger variety of abilities. As long as we stick to a team, we can overcome this. I don't want another disaster like last time. I won't get a third chance."

No, you won't. A second chance was enough.

Jian remained quiet, he simply sat and watched the others converse. The only time he showed emotion was when he heard three sharp cracks in the room, he smiled a little. The others were speaking dark thoughts to each other, asking if they were cursed, if we would survive. Jian now knew the answer to the second question. No. We wouldn't survive, it was a fools errand. Jian was not afraid to die, he would help as much as he possibly could. But the team, they were good soldiers yes, but it was not their time to die.

Pushing those dark thoughts away Jian got up and stretched a little. He walked over to a soldier who had not yet said anything to anyone and introduced himself,

"Greetings, my name is Jian Yao. What be your name?"
