Scariest/Creepist Place in FNV

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 5:04 pm

If I recall Fallout 3 had a very creeping building that had doors that close on their own, objects that fly on their own, and very creepy terminal logs. (I believe it was called the Dunwinch building).

Does FNV have anything similar.

Thanks :celebration:

Dunwich and I would say nothing in FNV compares to it.

As above, nothing in FO:NV compares, as it lacks the atmosphere present in FO3.

I know this is a bit off topic but once I finish Operation Anchorage in FO3, I may have to seek out this "Dunwich" building you speak of.

Dunwich is a pretty overrated, and wildly out of place, "ghost-house" if you ask me. Tries too hard. But no, I don't think there's any "horror buildings" like that in NV.

I didn't think anything in NV was downright scary either. Some things can give you a jump the first time (the hidden plant monsters in Vault whatever number it was, 22?). Going through Vault 34 the first time can be tense because of the dangers present but again, not really scary.

Very southwest corner of map, can't miss it. First time through it's pretty freaky,

Dudes.

Vault 11, not much to fight (Rats, Giant Mantises, a good number of deadly traps.) throughout the vault, but its super creepy in the sacrificial chamber.
The whole time your expecting to just die, the suspense is awesome the first time.

Think the Soilent Green death room.

Ah yeah I remember that room in that vault.

Sitting in that chair, looking around and trying to prepare my self not knowing where and what is going to try to kill me was pretty intense. :ahhh:

And yes I did die the first time

Only time I jumped in New Vegas was the quest where you have to help those ghouls in that... building place, I forget the name. Where you have to go down to the basemant and fight the big things, I didn't know what to expect. Then, BAM, "I see you!"

Some huge mad blue thing charging at me with a club. I started firing wildly and running away

REPCONN Test Site: First time was pretty creepy when I fist playing game.

Vault 34: Now this place so scary, so difficult, and too much feral-ghouls.

Far north east of the map, there is a place I think called camp guardian that has been overwhelmed, which has a spooky feel when entering it imo.
As well as the old radio SoS trick to ramp up tension.

Camp Searchlight has that feel imo, think Dunwich as an army base full of ghouls and nasty mid level critters, while being flooded by radiation,
After talking about radscorpions with the one friendly non feral ghoul there you'll have a masive shock comming if still under level 10 and not experienced with combat.

It's worse than that, it's a completely outlandish attempt to shoehorn H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulu mythos into the Fallout universe and attribute ghoulification to occult activities rather than mutation.

Anyone who was scared of it must have been terrified by every single incident of Havok physics suddenly kicking in on clutter objects causing them to fling themselves around.

Dunwich Building was just a building full of ghouls for me. I mean Necronomicon reference was nice but ghouls are just "whaaa" followed by a gun shot and "shuut uuup".

Of course I was playing Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth at that time and it was quite hard to scare me after that game. Kind of a gained immunity I guess.

Vault 34 for me. First time I went through it I was low level and under-equipped. Pretty intense. I wouldn't qualify it as horror-scary, but more of an adrenaline rush.

Actually I was pretty impressed with Hidden Valley the first time I was there at night and the winds and sandstorm came up. It was like "Get me outa here". Later on I learned to deal with it (it helps to have a follower to kill off the odd scorpion you might miss).

Vault 22 had the ability to be a lot creepier/scarier than it ended up being. Vault 34 was a bit creepy, but wasn't bad.

Camp Guardian was another spot where they could have made it a LOT creepier if they had wanted to. As it stood, there was a lot of buildup, but when you go in, it's pretty well lit. Imagine trying to move around there with little more than maybe a few glowing mushroom lights and your Pip-Boy light...

Don't joke like that. I once used "grab" to move a pile of plates and nearly had a heart attack! They were possessed! Posesessed by Cthulhu!

Anyway, Dunwich was pretty lame all told. Vault 11, meanwhile, genuinely horrified me. Not because of some cheap scares like ghouls in a dark building, but because of what happened there.

After Dec 21st, I hope to answer this question with the new DLC. It looks scurry.

I didn't find Vault11 scary at all...but maybe because I recognized the actor. But at least I laughed.

Not too much in the game that's truly creepy, no. I enjoyed Vault34 a lot for its tense atmosphere/combat, but scary? No.

Vault 22 really creeped me out the first time through, for some reason. I think I avoided it on playthroughs numbers 2 and 3 ...
