I wouldve voted yes if only the poll werent so biased

I would like some sort of system where scarring is not affected by your level or the amount of enemies youve killed . . . maybe it should be based on how many times your health was lower than 5% or something like that. Maybe some pure mage/stealth characters dont get hit at all so why should they have scars?

It would be cool to see your buddies' character all mangled, missing fingers and ears and whatnot and you immediately get an impression of his playstyle

i wouldnt like it since its too Fable-y

And fable scars weren't even really representative of actual battle scars.

Ugh i took a sword to the chest. Wait.. how did that claw mark scar get on my face!? What have I been drinking!?

derp, my bad :P That was supposed to say "No!! I don't want my character to be that immersive," but i guess I could have worded it better.

at any rate, I enjoyed fable 2 but I think comparing that to skyrim is like comparing apples and oranges. Skyrim has completely different artistic style and I think if done right, the scars can add a lot to the game. Granted I hadn't thought about the healing effects of spells and the like, but we can argue that healing doesn't necessarily make something blemish free, as it does speed up the healing process, in which case scars will result anyways.

great discussion so far guys keep it going :)

I think it should be part of the character customization in the beginning, but other than that not a fan of the idea.

I said no only because some scars might ruin my character. Idk though maybe if you could remove them it would be cool.

Maybe thy should add the ability to add scars at character creation.

I liked the way Fable 1 implemented these traits to be honest with you. It was much more of a linear experience so your scars basically showed you the horrors you went through in prison. The level design of that prison was very well done too...you could hear the screams the cries, you'd see the prisoners, and just see torture devices covered in blood.

Whenever I played through Fable, I always cringed when I got to that part. And when I looked at my characters face and body I had something to remember that part, regardless of if I enjoyed it or not. It had a psychological impact -- it made a connection between me and my character which a lot of role playing games fail to do in this present age.

Whereas that part just screwed things up for me.... spend a year in prison, and suddenly come out looking like a 600 year old dude with grey hair and wrinkles. And everyone around you is still using their normal models. Bah.

Sounds cool on paper, but in practice it would be irritating. I want one face that doesn't get altered.

Sounds like a cool idea... People generally seem to be against it so far though...

It actually wasn't that specific part in the storyline that caused your player to age but it was actually the rate at which you leveled up which caused your player to age. :)

None the less, it was a very stupid mechanic as nobody else in the game world would age leaving you to feel alone and old. To counteract this aging you could donate money to the temple of Avo to become younger...but it was known to be buggy..The whole ageing system really went against Lionhead's tagline of being any kind of hero you wanted, too.

I think Dragon Age 2 implemented scarring quite well whereas Mass Effect 1 made them look quite nasty.

I wouldnt like character scarring but id like to see wear on armor/weapons then as you repair it the wear goes away. But this may get old after a while idk so i could go either way really. But i think id like what i stated above.

any thoughts?

Yeah- like I already said in another "scars from fights over time" thread, I'll pass. The amount of fighting some of my characters do, there'd be nothing left of them but scar tissue.

Scars at character creation and by choice is plenty, thank you very much.

...

So because Fable has it,it isnt a good thing...?
"I dont like Fable so i dont like any features Fable had."
silly that.

I don't speak for anyone here but I don't feel that way, I actually kind of liked Fable, at least the Lost Chapters, I never played either of the sequels so I can't speak for them, I don't want it in the Elder Scrolls because Fable demonstrated the problems with this, because by the end of the game my character looked like he sleeps in a bed of daggers. I don't want to spend half an hour creating the character I want to play only to have my work ruined by getting scars later on, for that same reason, I also wouldn't want to have attributes change your appearance (irrelevent in Skyrim anyway, but it's something people like to suggest so I thought I'd mention it.) or any other such change to the appearance character I worked hard to create that I have no direct control over. I like having scars as an option I can choose during character creation, if that's what I want to do, but I wouldn't want it to happen as a result of getting hit during gameplay.

I don't see anything biased about the poll.

He changed it apparently.

I think the best way to do scars is apply them in chargen that way if you want scars you can have them and the people who don't want them don't have to deal with them.

It's still got some unnecessary additional comments trying to steer people into voting the way he wants. Are you saying it was even worse at some point?

Seriously...what's wrong with plain "Yes" and "No," people?

Not sure I'd like this, it'd be cool but it depends how often they accumulate and if I don't want them how often do I need to heal them? Will they be a chore?

In my opinion we should keep scars as a cosmetic feature in the character creation. Progressive scars would be quite annoying if you wanted to keep the appearance you create at the start of the game.
