Scarring

Post » Thu Aug 05, 2010 12:40 am

Would anyone like to see progressive scarring in the game? what I mean by that is simply that as time goes on, the Player Character should accumulate scars. I don't think a battle with a dragon is going to leave anyone without some kind of painful momento?

They've already confirmed that scars are in as a base character creation choice, but if you really are the Dragonborn and supposed to save the world, you'll probably end up fighting a lot, and it'd be a shame for there to be nothing to remember your fights by xD. Maybe you could even have an option to get something like "plastic surgery," where you visit a mage that "resets" your scars?

I may be barking at the moon here, but I think if it doesn't take too much time to implement, it would be a great addition that only makes it more immersive.

any thoughts?

If you make a biased poll like this you are practically guaranteeing people voting against your idea out of spite.

Meanwhile I think Ive heard some people say scarring is in the game. Im not 100% sure.

Yes, too much like Fable. I hope its not in, but it wouldnt be that big of a deal to me if it was either.

Talk about a biased poll...

Anyways, if I spent a lot of time working on getting my character to look the way I want her to, I don't want the game to just up and start changing her.

This, also by the time you complete the main quest you'll be one big scar! I like choosing my scars in the beginning if any at all.

No - but not for the reason you suggest. For one if you use healing spells/potions you could heal wounds before scars form, and also it's just not that appealing having your face changed over time since it can ruin a character essentially.

If I can use a magic spell or drink a potion to heal a sword gash, why wouldn't the associated scar heal as well?

Maybe if I'm roleplaying a masochist who waters down his healing potions so as to leave scars behind...

The poll is ridiculously biased. And no, I can choose some scars at character creation and thats good enough for me. I don't want anything even remotely similar to Fable's scar system.

So many people talk about wanting consequences for their choices and actions. I wonder how many of them are voting no. I vote no, because scars will be a cosmetic choice and I wouldn't want a Fable like system. Nor would I want them to spend time making a really good scar system.

I'd prefer being able to add a few scars In character creation.

Let's hear it for polls with biased options.

0 No!! Why would I want my character to be more immersive?

X No! I don't want the character I carefully spent alot of time making look good, turn into a massively scarred freakshow over 100+ hours of combat.

Biased poll is biased.

This
I hated it in Fable and I would hate it in TES too. I'm quite meticulous about creating my characters appearance and I don't want something screwing with that because it's "immersive"

I really like the idea of battle scars accumulating... however an absolute MUST would be some kind of potion or spell that heals them completely. That way players who don't want their character scarred can easily remove them.

...

So because Fable has it,it isnt a good thing...?
"I dont like Fable so i dont like any features Fable had."
silly that.

It would be a welcome feature if it'd be optionable in the new game settings menu.
I wouldnt mind a burly warrior character to be scarred, but my pretty mage girl should stay scar-clean imo.
So scarring should preferably be an option, not a solid feature.

No, more like "because Fable has shown how all these body-altering mechanisms are TERRIBLE" (aging in #1, stats effecting build in #2, etc.)

In fable, I didn't like this feature. Also, Skyrim should stand on its own, its definately good enough not to have to rip off features that would be as noticable as a copy as scarring in fable.

Also, I DO like fable. Just because I dont like a particular feature, doesnt mean I dont like the entire game. saying "too much like fable" doesnt imply fable is bad. Just too close to the same....

I think what should happen is after a battle there is a chance you will receive a significant wound, you will then have the option to properly treat the would via Healing Mage or your own magic, if you choose to ignore it, it will become a scar. I also think the scars should be "random" appearing in appropriate places where you get hit. Not.. 'Oh I got cut in the arm *scar appears on face*' like Fable did.

I liked the way Fable 1 implemented these traits to be honest with you. It was much more of a linear experience so your scars basically showed you the horrors you went through in prison. The level design of that prison was very well done too...you could hear the screams the cries, you'd see the prisoners, and just see torture devices covered in blood.

Whenever I played through Fable, I always cringed when I got to that part. And when I looked at my characters face and body I had something to remember that part, regardless of if I enjoyed it or not. It had a psychological impact -- it made a connection between me and my character which a lot of role playing games fail to do in this present age.
