Scary rats :(

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 1:23 pm

One thing scare me, rats in Oblivion was larger than the rats in Morrowind. The mole rats in Fallout 3 were far larger than in Oblivion. If the current trend continues you might be able to ride them in Skyrim and they are medium level enemies.

In TES 6 we might see this.

*Huggles* There there. Can't say rats ever bothered me much in games with the exception of annoyance. Why is it always rats in the beginning of games? Spiders... now thats something to be scared off. *Shudders*

Lol..
My favourite mini game in oblivion was leap ratting.

1. Make a Khajiit.
2. boost acrobatics.
3. Find a rat.
4. Wait till you hear the "squeeek".
5. Hit jump quickly.
6. leap over said rat as it lunges without taking damage.
7. Repeat for an hour laughing your finely toned butt off...

I hope they do get bigger but in stages, that way I can test my skill for the Skyrim olympics.

I can second that! It used to be the zombies that scared me, but I know the giant spiders in Skyrim are going to be my biggest fear lol.
Rats were annoying - especially in high grass. The combat music would kick in but I'd hardly ever see them until they jumped in my face <_<

The rats themselves are not scary; however with the current growth rate they will soon be boss level enemies.

They had a giant spider in a concept drawing.

I do sympathise with the folk who have rat- and spider-related phobias, as both giant and regular-sized ones are pretty much a staple of fantasy bestiaries.

Having said that, I love giant rats. For a gameworld I was designing a while back, I had this concept planned out for a dungeon wall section that, when players passed, would burst outwards to reveal the head of a gargantuan daemon-infested rat queen. (This after fighting through the more predictable droves of smaller rats.)

For your sake, I hope Bethesda haven't done anything like that.

Mh, I'm not looking forward to facing them in Dark Souls. No no, can't just have massive rats. Lets make them zombie/diseased rats as well! I hope they at least don't have spiders in the game... probably something far worse admittedly, but at least I say whatever it is scares me without sounding like a total child. xD

I'm relatively sure there was a screenshot of the player character fighting a really big, ugly, scary looking spider. I'm hoping its just a boss in an otherwise spider free dungeon... I won't hold my breath though.

Those things made me glad spiders were not in NV.. them and the cazadores.
Toughest rats in a game for long time.

I'm glad the OP does not have a fear of rats, as the last thread about phobias I read here, ( NV's forum about Arachnophobia in october I think. )
Was a lot of rude, thoughtless comments.

Lmao, Medium leveled? They can't be that high rank! They are terrible. One hit bash out the way with a shield and they are done.

Bear-blasting ? Is that the same as bear-bowling where you paralize a bear on the top of a mountain and watch it roll down ?

Close but it made acrobatics more fun, the aim was to avoid taking a hit from the rats AI leap attack, which was always preceded by a squeek.
Due to their scale if you timed it right you could avoid their attack.
Not many rats where outside however, but standing in front of a pit trap or any trap really made up for it, so you get them to fall down a spiked pit, or get shot at ( if you triger that trap yourself ).
Then you mix in sneak.. where you have to get right up behind a rodent the leap over them so they detect you after.

I think you're on to something there.

I also approve of giant rat mounts. Look up Luis Royo's Wings of Dreams for a really cool example, in a snowy setting no less. (Due to the art containing minor nudity, I don't think I can link to it here.)

Forget the rats and the spiders, its the Mudcrabs you want to be worried about. Horrid creatures, makes for good eating though.

I'd like to be able to fight a King Crab like the one whose shell house Redoran resided beneath in Ald-Ruhn. Should even be more badass than a dragon.

I think its very probable, which is why I brought up. Imagine no longer being able to laugh off an encounter with mudcrabs and the NPCs had a good reason to be frightened of em.
