That's what happens when you get chased by a black boar (TIE). You see a great opportunity to make a screenshot: http://ompldr.org/vN2oxOQ/ScreenShot0.jpg.

Really nice screenshots, but you won't make me jealous of your stylized desaturation! Must resist!

Here are some new shots from the land of saturation eternal:

Some breathtaking shots here. I can't wait to take some of my own when my new rig arrives next week. I have a few questions though, what kind of rig are you running Darkstone to be able to use OBGE and ENB and at what resolution? My second question is to palidoo, I really like the look of that Swampier Swamps retex you did for QTP3 but is it an original QTP3 retex or a Redimized one? Once again, amazing shots all round.

Well, I use Redimized but it doesn't matter because they're the Detailed Terrain versions of the textures. So I was working off of the textures that come with DT, and if you use the swamp textures I recolored without having DT it's possible things will look bad, I'm not sure how the game handles the alpha channel compared to DT. But if you use QTP3's terrain textures there's no reason not to use DT anyway, so I have like no motivation to do alpha channel-less versions of them in the situation where they do look bad, heh. Maybe they look okay, I don't know. The point is, if you don't have DT, get it, and it will make your original question irrelevant!

And your question is actually doubly irrelevant because I just checked and QTP3 and QTP3R have identical terrain textures, it seems.

Get http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15245. Get http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=26899. Then http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36953.

You can install the first two in any order as long as you install my textures last.

If you already know all this, hopefully now someone else does too! lool

Coming soon: I actually post my new road texture to tesnexus. Will it happen? Can I stop the endless tweaking? Stay tuned!

Thanks for the reply. I'm a tad behind when it comes to Texture replacers I usually only use Vibrant Textures because it was all my PC could handle but you just helped out a great deal. I was planning on using detailed terrain, I heard your a fool if you don't use it with QTP3. So yup, thank you very much and I shall be having a good ole play about next this month. All that is left now is to hunt down Ampols textures. Shiny.

I've been thinking of trying Ampol's textures. What svcks is that he showed up to say all of his textures available online were outdated and that he was going to upload the complete set of new ones, and then he disappeared. So all that's available are the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34175 and http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=5794. I use the cave textures and they're quite good. For everything else except for the custom road texture I'm perpetually working on I use QTP3R and am mostly satisfied with it.

Also, if you don't know, Detailed Terrain is just the QTP3 terrain textures modified to have transparency, used as part of a special shader system that changes how terrain textures are displayed by taking advantage of the transparency, with adjacent textures layered on top of one another. So instead of having a grass texture that fades unnaturally into a texture of rocks, they will blend together naturally with the grass between the rocks, for example. It's not perfect and there's still some fading going on, but it's quite a clever mod that overhauls the entire terrain system very subtly. But if you install Detailed Terrain then try to install any other terrain texture that doesn't make use of an alpha channel (transparency), like a terrain texture in the Vibrant overhaul, you will lose the benefit of DT in that case. You can use DT/QTP3 terrain textures with other texture packs if you like, just be sure you're installing DT last (unless it's something like my swamp textures that are meant to replace the DT textures).

And in the case of those recolored swamp textures, I suppose I was solving two problems, because not only would have installing the terrain textures that come with Swampier Swamps replaced QTP3's hi-res textures with lower-res ones, but using Swampier Swamp's recolors of the vanilla textures would have also lost me the benefit of DT unless I edited them to make use of an alpha channel. Which is far more complicated than adjusting hue/saturation/lightness. So I recolored the textures that came with DT instead of the base QTP3 textures and problem(s) solved.

Nice shots! And fancy enough for me, at least. Of course, if I was taking them there'd be no film grain or desaturation, but everyone has their own preferred style. Mine just happens to be crazy saturated colors, to compensate for all of these first-person shooters and action-y games that come out looking grey, or brown, or grey and brown.

Well,my machine is not cutting edge by any means and I suspect it will be replaced later in the year before a little event in November.Anyway the specs are Dual Core E5200 @ 2.50 GHz, 2 GB ram and the graphics card is an Nvidia 9600 GT 512mb version.....yup...I`m surprised I can get away with what I throw at it too, oh,my gaming resolution is 1440 x 900.

Woah, I am quite surprised to see you rocking those graphics on that rig. I shall be quite alright then I imagine. My former PC died on me so I have had to spec this rig to be future proof for Skyrim, except the graphics card just went for an amazing offer on the GTX480, I know it has some heat/sound issues but my case can more than handle it. If I struggle with Skyrim it is all that will need an update also we should have the next gen cards by the end of the year. November couldn't come sooner.

Nice! Screenshots with color. Not that death-knowz's shots don't look incredible, but I still think it's too much of a trade-off losing the depth of color the game has to get a more stylized look.

A couple more screenshots I took today, just to push this thread closer to its death:

http://i54.tinypic.com/2qsq8b9.jpg
http://i56.tinypic.com/2nvqq1l.jpg

I go on about color vs. stylized desaturation all the time because I tend to think my screenshots wouldn't come out as good if they lacked any of the depth of the color in them. Granted, I've got saturation at 1.2, so I guess I'm "cheating," but it seems that most of my screenshots I really like are more about the interaction of colors than the composition, though those do play into one another, and I do spend an absurd amount of time trying to frame shots perfectly, hehe.

I tend to go through phases,my latest shots have been taken with "stylized desaturation" but I do take highly coloured shots too,it just depends on my mood and the scene.Heres a couple of older "coloured" shots of mine...excuse the floating trees in the last one...I never noticed them till today :whistling:

Really nice. See, those look better and more pleasing to me than your less colorful screenshots (that already look quite good, of course). I mean, I actually have a certain reaction to "stylized" shots, where initially I feel it looks better than any standard color shot and makes Oblivion look a generation ahead of what it really is. But then I realize that my mind has been trained to associate desaturation with "next generation" games, because so many games now use those color filters, games I don't ever really play but end up admiring via screenshots. So when I see Oblivion in the same style I have this brief moment where I want to do it myself and overhaul my OBGE settings to get a "next-gen" Oblivion, but the moment passes and I look at one of my really colorful screenshots while taking deep breaths and repeating my "color is good, brown is bad" mantra, lololol
