Scenic Screenshot Thread #4

Haha, I love how you're publicizing Liquid Water everywhere you go, palidoo. That being said, I can't really say I'm much better...

I left the UI on for this shot as it fits unobtrusively against the rock. I'm still amazed at how good Oblivion can look at times, even without any enhancers.

Cool screens Breton. #2 has pretty sick lighting.

I concur. Breton Paladin has some beautiful shots!

High praise, from the both of you!

I've long admired your scenic shots, Amp. And more recently, I've come to appreciate your own style, far.

Thanks! :cake: I do feel like I'm finally getting closer to where I want to be, with shaders and textures, and all that stuff. Glad It's not all in my mind!

Great shots all around. I think the new water compels one to take a million screenshots. It does for me at least!

These are all great shots! I'm really liking your water fog and transparency settings Palidoo. Probably the best I've seen.
Kind of cool how you kept all the shots in the same vicinity. Feels like I was there with you while you explored. Where will you take us next?

I think this is probably due to the "space bar as screenshot key factor" lololol. I take so many shots and then can't decide on which to discard. But those shots were from when I was in and out of the game messing with the water shaders settings to find what I liked the most. Thanks for the complements, I'll share my settings eventually in the water thread once I've mostly finalized them. Of course tweaking can be kind of endless...

Also, my next adventure I'll be taking you on is called "organizing all of the [censored] I've picked up off of dead NPCs since installing Armamentarium/John's/a million other mods." There will be exciting screenshots of my inventory screens, Cobl's Luggage, and the global chest portal urn I use. Perhaps even a shot of my pimped out vanilla waterfront shack where this intense organizing might take place! :teehee:

Actually I'm thinking of finally heading to SI... hopefully themythofstrider is almost finished with his SI creature textures...

Wow, you have some amazing shots as well Matthew_Kaine! There are some very talented screen shot artists of late. Or have I not been paying attention?

Most of what ends up in this thread is pretty excellent, though I've only managed to take note of darkstone's stuff over the past month or two. But then of course I don't remember the average ones and I'd never reply to someone's mediocre screenshot with "hey that's a pretty dull picture, man" :teehee:

I haven't been taking too many screenshots lately, been busy actually playing the game for a change.

Today while cruising the Nvidia control panel I discovered the "Single / Multi Display performance mode" option. Wish I had known about that sooner... the difference it made to my frame rate was rather fantastic.

Tangent over. Here's a quartet of shots:

Haha, despite the "artistic embellishment" I really like that shot. Why don't I ever take nice foggy screenshots? I'm too drawn to the colorful scenes.

I keep tweaking the water and loading my save on the cliffs by the Arcane University, so I have even more screenshots of the same damn area. It's just easy to check it out in that spot during a clear day heading into the evening. I think I'm almost there with the water, I've got the distant waves down and I just need to decide to stick with one configuration of the other stuff, and we're talking differences of 0.01 lololol. But it will be the best combination of reflectivity/transparency/inScatCoeff-ency ever!! I will not hesitate to share my divine integers with the the needful world when the time comes!! :teehee:

Also, about the filenames, imageshack decided to cut the names I gave the screenshots off in the middle of the word "pool." So it cut them off where you would expect. (I'm not sure why I'm using that word anyway, this area isn't really a pool)

http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/1857/obgeliquidcleardayicpoo.jpg|http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/1857/obgeliquidcleardayicpoo.jpg|http://img846.imageshack.us/img846/1857/obgeliquidcleardayicpoo.jpg|http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/1857/obgeliquidcleardayicpoo.jpg|

http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/8834/obgeliquidclearduskicpo.jpg

One thing I love about Oblivion's living world, if you look at the first "Reflections" link, is how a soldier on a horse way off in the distance manages to just randomly show up while I'm taking a screenshot. That's a fairly mundane occurrence, but with the mods I've got installed especially, there's so much going on that isn't focused on my character; catching some action that's happening independently is such an immersion-booster. But I digress! Anyway, I think the water might be too dark, so the tweaking continues...

Fog makes almost any scene instantly atmospheric (and disguises the fact that I don't have many high-end graphics mods installed). Fog + Godrays (Fograys?) is my favorite medium to play around in. If I didn't actually enjoy playing Oblivion so damn much I might focus on getting some more artistry out of my shots. I've never really bothered with post-op Photoshopping or extensive tweaking of the OBGE shaders, but some of the folks posting in these threads really want to make me head down that road.

That said, I did mess around with Liquid Water for a good amount of time over the weekend and it's an impressive piece of work. The fact that it comes with a fixed version of SSAO is a gigantic bonus. Finally my Oblivion looks almost as good as my Morrowind! :D

FOGRAYS is indeed the most awesome combination (that is when I'm lucky enough to get the right weather for it). But I go somewhat in the opposite direction with my setup, because I've beefed up the game aesthetically as much as possible to the detriment of my framerate, hehe. However while I'm envious of a lot of the stylized desaturated/color-filtered screenshots that get posted, which I've mentioned many times previously in this thread because I'm a dork, I'm totally intent on maintaining my visuals to be as colorful as possible, and to get a stylized look requires limiting the color range. So I have a little saturation boost of 0.2, and that's the only thing I modify color-wise. Realistic visuals are irrelevant to me; my generic Euro-fantasy world demands COLOR! http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=26899 is my [censored]! Personally I'm kind of against working on shots with Photoshop after taking them because I think they look pretty striking already without any additional modification.

Also, I'm totally wearing The Who-branded pajama pants that cost $2 right now, and I'm not even a fan of The Who! (nothing against them, just haven't listened much, though I have a friend who loves them)

After replacing my Radeon 4870 with a GTX 570, I have recently started using a few OBGE v2 filters to give my game a bit more eye-candy.

Finally exploring the Shivering Isles, and setting records for number of screenshots taken of the same locations. I think I need to learn to self-edit. These are all pretty varied though. :teehee:

Looks like I'm following myself up, hehe.

Really happy with the new MLAA shader (check the OBGE thread), scenes have even more definition now without the slight blur of the NFAA shader I had been using, which was significant enough even at lower settings.

Anyway, more Shivering Isles beauty:
