If you're in public high school I don't see the difficulty in maintaining any grade over a D-. You should really be looking in the long term and deciding whether Skyrim is worth it over maintaining average plus grades for your college applications. Trust me, I went down that road in Freshmen year of highschool and cleaned my act up since then, currently maintaining a healthy life style of gaming and school/social life.
Looking in the short term, I'm assuming you're on a semester system and first semester ends in mid-late December. I mean, there's a good 3-4 months of school (depending on when you start) until Skyrim, so you should put all your effort into school until Skyrim, then make a decision on whether you're willing to wait until winter break or moderate your play time (work before play, etc). I mean no offense when I say this, but you're approaching this subject as if you're already expecting to fall into the D range BEFORE Skyrim is out, which is a really poor attitude. I might sound like one of your parents running like a broken record, but trust me, i've been down that road before and had my ear chewed out one too many times. Just approach the semester with a positive attitude and weigh out your options, looking in the long run and how this game could impact your future (beyond high school).
Best of luck...
