I don't believe he fully understood the mutation question. The guy didn't mean "MUTATION WILL CAUSE PEOPLE TO BECOME SUPER HUMANS THAT FIRE EYE LASERS" I believe he meant things like animals being born with two heads or certain animal genes fusing together.

what is missing is: during the "nuclear winter" that follows, inner America/Europe freeze. Las Vegas would become Siberian-esque. Yet in the games it's still hot and deserty with cactii everywhere. Don't know how long a nuclear winter would last?

Also, resources/food would become so scarce (without lines of supply etc) that you would get armed compounds forming to protect them. it would be the rich/powerful against the rabble (think Tenpenny, but on a massive scale - or the gas compound in Mad Max 2). 200 years later, these compounds would be established cities, but I doubt they would welcome you in like Simms does in Megaton. Faaaaar too trusting for this scenario.

Check when the term "nuclear winter" first came up.

Would've needed to go far more in-depth to actually be interesting.

Thank you for sharing this!! This is awesome! :celebration:

Michio Kaku is one of my Favorite scientists, he has done shows and video books for years and years - very respected in the scientific community. I think its Awesome that GameTrailers got him into an interview!

His views are most interesting, especially his description of America during the first two weeks. I think we all know that Ghouls (as we know them in the Fallout universe) could never be reality, but its still cool to hear him describe it all. :)

Interesting video. Too short for my tastes, but hey I could listen to Dr. Michio Kaku for hours...

I think this guy is a complete goob. I understand making physics and science relate-able, but "how will we fight the aliens" and the other bogus topics of his show are such an abstraction I really can't be bothered to take the guy seriously, at least not his public persona.

Eh...I guess it was sort of interesting. The science talk was all stuff you learn in middle school or before, but it was ok. Thanks for the link!

I could not disagree more; your trying to relate the topics of the shows he is asked to speak to versus the science he does. What you are complaining about is the writing for the show, which he doesn't do. The stories that he speaks of come from the studios, sometimes from we the masses and he tries to answer them. If some of the questions seem stupid and bogus, I would 100% agree with you. But many of those "stupid" and "bogus" topics are exactly what the masses want to see on TV, even if it seems silly to those of us who understand the science. :)

The fact that someone is trying to popularize science is not something to push away, but to embrace. I love the fact that these shows exist, and some of them that Michio is on are not silly or bogus - some of the science shows he has done with David Green or Steven Hawking are anything but silly but rather are above all of our heads. So some of the shows, sure are dumb. Some of them are fantastic. All of them are about science at difference audience levels, and they deserve our support.

Michio Kaku needs to do a full hour of "Sci Fi Science" devoted solely to the Fallout universe.

I got the impression that Aonaran was talking about the host (though I could be wrong.)

Bleh. Waste of time. I do have some respect for Kaku so it was fun listening to what he thought about it. The only problem is that most of this can be decided by your average person with a high school education who spends a few minutes thinking about it. Doesn't go in depth at all.

I liked it
I'm a Michio Kaku fan. Somehow no matter what kind of topic or scenario he describes he's able to do it in a way I can easily understand.
With this video, it'd be the example of the Roman Empire's fall.

One thing he didn't cover is what happens when all the plants die from firestorms / fallout and oceans become irradiated? How much would that upset the recycling of carbon dioxide and oxygene? Would air still be breathable?

Plants are notoriously resilient, look at Bikini Atoll. The place is a lush Island, or Chernobyl the forest is eating the city all after nuclear explosions/ radioactive fallout. The ecosystem would be brutally affected but still alot would survive and be reborn.

exactly. It's not the rads that affect plants or crops. It's 1) nuclear winter 2) lack of people to do the farmwork/forestry work. It would pick up eventually, nature is resilient.

Now the area around Las Vegas isn't going to suddenly become a lush tropical paradise, simply because of the lack of water anyway. However, DC is quite a green area, so 200 years after it would be well overgrown. No burnt trees and weedy brown grass, it would be like a thick forest almost. There is a mod for that, but it should have been taken into account at design time. Aaaaanyway...
