Scopes on pistols and sights in general

Who here likes scopes on their pistols?

I really dislike the scopes on pistols. The purpose for sidearms is for CQB where you need fast target acquisition. Putting a scope on takes away its ability to quickly acquire targets and to track multiple threats. If you want to take a target at a range where the scope would matter then a rifle is always better. A rifle is more accurate and does more damage with the same ammo. I had to get another 9mm with extended mags after I put a scope on the first one. It totally ruined it for me. Without the scope a 9mm has nice iridium night sights, a nice sight picture and allows good peripheral vision to track multiple targets. The only pistol I like the sight on is the plasma defender as it gives you a wide view of the area near the target.

As far as the iron sights go, here are my thoughts:

  • 9mm - nice sights, good in dark areas
  • 45 auto - similar to 9mm
  • A shining light in the darkness - no night sight but sight picture is still good
  • 12.7mm - no night sight but still sight picture is good
  • Lucky - good sight picture
  • That gun - sight picture not the best but for short range it works fine and is fast and cool. Used to run fallout 2 with a gifted one hander and the .223 pistol was the bomb.
  • 10mm pistol - terrible, worst sights in the game
  • Ranger Sequoia - have not used much as medicine stick makes better use of the ammo, and lucky or that gun serve better as sidearms.
  • cowboy repeater - once I got used to it I really got to like the sight. Very accurate.
  • trail rifle - iron sights are ok, scope is only cowboy weapon that gets one so it serves a purpose
  • brush rifle - too cluttered, not as good as the cowboy repeater
  • medicine stick - nice a clean sight picture, quick to acquire
  • Survivalist rifle - quick to acquire and accurate.
  • This machine/battle rifle - aperture is a bit small but not bad. I can't understand why they gave these rifles a high spread of .5 and .55. It should have been a .05 or something. Takes away from a cool rifle with the best reloading animation and sound.
  • Assault carbine - aperture is too small to make out the sights, it just ends up being one big dot to put on target
  • Service rifle - better than the assault carbine, not as good as the Survivalist rifle.
  • Laser rifle - scoped is great, good view of surrounding area
  • Plasma Defender - again the scoped is better than the iron sight.
  • Tri-laser - the rifle blocks a lot of the screen when using the sights. Makes it hard for CQB
  • Alpha MF recharger pistol - sight are not very good but as fast as it fires with unlimited ammo who cares. Just walk the bolts back and forth and everything dies.

I really like how they added sights to the weapons. I find myself never using VATS at all except with melee, unarmed and throwing weapons and grenades.
