Scrap items for materials...

Post » Sat Sep 03, 2011 3:55 am

I was wondering:

Will be possible to scrap weapons, armors and other items to salvage raw materials to craft new items?

Some article said you could disenchant magical items to learn the enchantment and possibly get other materials. Maybe you can reverse engineer weapons and armor for materials?

It seems only logical that one could "break-down" the iron, for example, from an iron weapon or armor and use it to improve and
upgrade other iron weapons and armor.

But who knows?

Not sure about breaking down weapons and armor but its safe to say that in order to make dwarven stuff you'll need to get scraps from centurions and dwemer ruins.

Has it been mentioned anywhere if one can "break-down" existing weapons and armor into their constituent component (ore)?

Wouldn't this be a rather common-place activity in "real" smithing?

In many cases, forged items could not be reused due to the very process used to first forge them. They become brittle and would not break down into their constituent components; basically a one-way chemical reaction has already occurred during the forging process. This is especially true of alloys, as one example.

EDIT: But of course that's more realistic; in game, who knows?

You can do that in Two Worlds Two and use the components to improve other items, which is cool. But you don't need a workbench, anvil or even a hammer... which is stupid.

Would be really cool if we could but wont hurt my feelings if not . If I were to guess I'd say Not for the sake of mining . Would'nt need to mine if you could simply break down all that loot you drag out of a dungeon .

I love those kind of mechanics, to clean my inventory and put all crap together in the "metal nugget", "silver nugget", etc. slots.

If it's not in the game it will be modded in, so I'm not worried about it.

Would be nice. I really liked the crafting in New vegas, breaking down unwanted ammo for a few scraps of powder. Have we had any word on whether disenchanting destroys the item, or are you left with a standard item and some new knowledge?
