Scrapping?

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 12:52 pm

Regardless of whether my character takes Scrapper or not, the game doesn't seem to be giving me things like asbestos (from items that are supposed to have it) when I scrap normal items (not weapons or armor). I'm playing on XB1. Anyone else has the same problem?

you can either throw the items just whole into the workbench and can immediatly use them for parts automatically (no need to scrap) or you need to enther "building mode" (at work station) and then you can walk around scrapping stuff

I'm still learning what parts what items have, but I know coffee pots contain asbestos (!!) if you scrap them. Which is hilarious.

I was operating under the misconception that workshops share inventory with each other. They don't without perks and I'm not sure whether the perks allow them to be shared or not. Also when you have an item out in the world and you salvage it within the confines of your settlement It does put that inventory in the workshop rather than in your character.

Thanks for the info about simply putting the items in the workshop and letting it do use those items.

You can make supply lines which make's it so everything is shared between workshops.

You need charisma level 6 and a free settler who can do the supply line, not without it's dangers ofcourse.

i haven't played around too much with the scraping or crafting aspects of the gameplay. I have been trying to figure out how to scraqe non armor/weapon items. like misc junk, lighters, clipboards etc. Do i do this by dumping the junk in the work bench?

I haven't seen anything 'automatically' scraqed yet in inventory. How would it even do that? If I have five different items in inventory that have screws and need a screw for a weapon mod, which one would get auto-scraqed?

Also you can scrap items before getting the Scrapper perk. But after you get the perk you can get more components from scrapping. So is it best to just 'store' items in the workbench until you can scraqe it properly? Honestly the whole scrapping/crafting process is a complete mess.

Automatic scrapping happens behind the scenes, no button to push. Anything in your inventory or any of the materials stored in the settlement workshops (whether it is the campfire or the armorer bench ect.) is elliglible to be scrapped automatically when you are crafting. So don't put something in those containers if you don't want it to be the scrapped. You do not need the scrapping perk to scrap.

I agree Beth should have said more on it other then "it just works" which is correct but if you don't know know how it works your SOL.

But again which item would get scrapped? Who picks it? Suppose I'm saving some items in storage that have some high level components but I need the higher level Scrapper perk to get them, but they also have screws. Then I do some basic mods and all the sudden those items I was saving for high level components gets auto-scrapped for their screws? If that happens then I need another storage area to keep items I know I will want to scraqe later.

See this is all just a big MESS.

I've got some asbestos on PS4 yesterday.

How do I if the area I'm in is editable? Is there any sign on-screen that shows up?

I've been taking items that I don't want to scrap (either because I like the item, or like you, they have the higher level components and I don't want them scrapped for low level components by accident), and storing them in containers that are NOT workbenches.

Example:
I really like the look of the skull bandanna you can wear on your face, but I really like wearing the gas mask as well and usually wear the gas mask. I store the bandanna in a metal box I crafted and keep next to the work bench.

This is also true for a weird alien toy I found, my vault uniform, and my wedding ring.

It is by far not perfect, but a quick fix.

So storage items you make are 'safe storage'. Good to know. I may have to try that.

Yup. And anything else that I don't care about getting scrapped/sold for caps (junk, apparel, weapons, aid) I just dump into the work bench storage system.
