Screen size problem

Post » Sat Oct 29, 2016 12:42 pm

I got a response from Bethesda.

Greetings,

Thank you for contacting Bethesda Technical Support Team! I understand you are having difficulty setting the correct aspect ratio for playing Skyrim SE on your TV.

We are investigating reports of display issues for Skyrim Special Edition on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. If you are experiencing issues related to how the game is displaying on your TV, you can try changing some of your TV's settings to see if the issue can be resolved. For example, changing any "fit to screen" or similar options to On or Off.

Please keep an eye on our twitter support page for future updates.

Warm Regards,

The Bethesda Support Team

Typical scripted response from Bethesda. Oh by the way Bethesda this issue is affecting some PC user also. It is the only one of my 30+ games (tried them all) that overscans and forces me to use a 1:1 pixel mode on my TV, none of my other games do it. Also why is it forcing my TV into an interlaced display mode? 1080i instead of 1080p? again, 30+ games and this is the only one with an issue.

Do you lot ever, you know....................................test these things before launch?

Most games just cater to the problem with the ps4's hud resize option, people really need to learn how to use their tv settings, this is just the first game that actually forced you to do it. If your not using full mode then your not getting your games full resolution because part of the image is outside your tv screen.

I'm glad bethesda is doing this, its forcing people to actually learn how to set their crap up lol

And that is where you are wrong, None of my other games, -read-: *NONE* of my other games overscan the image. they fit the screen perfectly at 16:9 @1080p, Skyrim is the only game I have that forces me to use a 1:1 pixel map.

Also I know perfectly well how to set my 'crap' up thank you and 1:1 should not be required on a 16:9 screen at 1920x1080 and it certainly should not be forcing an interlaced image.

Not sure if you have sorted this for yourself mate, but I've just figured it out:

Menu > picture > screen adjustment > picture size > screen fit

This is a pretty annoying issue. There should be a setting in game to adjust screen borders to compensate for the over scanning.

This is happening to me on PS4 and on my DLP there are no settings for over scanning as it's a projection unit. I would have to manually adjust the mirror inside the display. This issue doesn't happen with any other game that I own (30+). The game doesn't appear to use the settings from the host (PS4) either as the settings for the screen borders isn't carrying over to the game. This doesn't happen on my other PS4 on an LCD ONLY if I set the TV to 1:1 which I should not have to do in the first place.

This is an issue with the game and there will either need to be a patch or mod to fix this.

Ruined? Seriously.... not perfect I know, but this can be repaired via patch I am sure. I am seeing the same issue on PS4 , but other than lock pick numbers not being easily seen, it's a pretty minor thing.....

There definitely will be a patch, it'll just be a question of when. The game did just come out, after all. Got some rough edges to smooth out.

When I play the game tonight or tomorrow, I will try to see if mine has an aspect ratio issue as well and add my voice here if there is.

This is happening with my ps4 and TV. The TV I didn't choose rather I inherited and I am actually pretty much totally new to ps4.

I looked at this thread to try to decide how to fix it. So then I went to my TV which has 'options' on the remote and I could change zoom size. But that didn't affect the ps4 when I switched over to ps4. Of course I need to pull out the cable HDMI and put in the ps4 HDMI to do that because like I implied the TV a little old and only 1 HDMI.

So then I found a different way to change settings on TV a button on side of TV labeled "WEGA Gate" and I found lots of menus but I do not know what all the settings in the WEGA Gate are and further even just going up or down in menus or selecting something in the menu I don't really know how to do so perhaps need to read about my make and model of TV. Seemed to be able to navigate menus with the channel controls on the TV. The remote didn't seem to control the WEGA Gate menus. The TV is a Sony.

Maybe with some further fussing around I can get it better. It is still playable maybe not seeing the beginning and ending of some text and mostly looks ok.

So I am new to ps4 so can't say I have a baseline or I can't say "all my other games are fine". And I inherited the TV (a Sony) so need to look into learning how to adjust the settings.

Yeah, after checking some of the mods for SSE on Nexusmods I saw it there too. So I guess it isn't just me that sees it that way. I wonder if the image cut off is an indication of a half-ass launch? :P

I had the same issue. On my Sony television (through the home screen, not the remote 'options' button) I went into Settings->Picture&Display->Screen and turned off 'Auto Display Area' and clicked through the 'Display Area' options below it to select 'Per Pixel' and it fixed it right up. AFAIK There should be a similar option (probably named completely differently and in a different spot) on most semi-new LCD/LED televisions.

I think you have to disable over scan on your TV. Depending on your TV model it could be a different option you have to choose, but honestly its not just you there is other people in other sites reporting the issue. Hope Bethesda quickly fixes this.
