You have your screen set to "zoom 16:9" or at least something other than "full".

Switch your TV to "full" mode, that will fix it.

This problem has come up a lot over om GameFAQs. Skyrim doesn't pay any attention to the screen size callibration feature in the display settings so you have to force the TV to show as much of the display as you can. "Full" or "auto" is usually perfect.

Haven't noticed this problem, it must be your TV settings. Just started playing the PS4 version myself.

Some TV's have the image slightly zoomed in by default, its for the "safe area" of older tv shows that used to display on CRT TV's, there should be an image setting somewhere to change the zoom or display area in your TV settings.

I am having the same problems on xb1. There is no way to resolve this problem, not for me anyway. So I'll just rough it.

This really is a huge problem as it's being widely reported. Users are either unaware of how to find the setting that lets their TV display the full screen, or no such option exists. I've posted reply upon reply about this across various forums, but TVs vary hugely by make and model so it's next to impossible to specifically say what settings should be used or where they can be found.

This is not a problem for the majority (or any?) of other console games, and I see it even effects PC users for some odd reason. It means the problem is indeed huge, but the good news is the bigger more widespread a problem is the faster Bethesda will rush out a patch for those who need it (based on common sense really). It's got to be disappointing having to wait until then to play the game properly though.

Well as a PC user I did notice the symbol of the Empire doesn't fit on my desktop shortcut icon to Skyrim Sepcial Edition, nor does it seem to fit properly on the launch menu splash screen.

That's... new :)

The problems I was referring to were PC users with monitors that aren't 16:9 being stuck with a 16:9 image - not sure whether part of the screen is missing there or whether there are black borders, but it's surprising. Usually PC games give you way more control over the resolution out of the box, so fhis could point to a similar underlying issue to the one console owners are facing.

This is because Bethesda does not view any actual gameplay on a screen during development

See its all coded up by programmers so that in theory they think it should work

Then they sell it ;)

Which is why they never notice or know about huge bug issues, or like this.....where the display does not even fit the screen properly

I mean.....for goodness sake......I can't think of any other explanation as to why Bethesda repeatedly overlooks major issues that ANYBODY working there, who actually switched the game ON would instantly say OMG we better fix that right now!

Beggars belief ! :wallbash:

Yet the old xbox 360 version fits the screen with no adjustment of anything!

So sorry to sound negative.....but a fundamental issue like this simply should not arise

Yeah, it only seems to be with the starting Skyrim / Empire logo on the desktop shortcut icon and the launch menu splash screen. Otherwise I don't have anything going off screen while I play at 1080p. I can't help but wonder if that icon thing might be due to me having some sort of 32-bit only icon setup for my desktop somewhere that I'm not aware of. I'm running on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

Well, on an LG TV the screen size problem is fixed by setting the Ratio to "Just Scan", if that helps.

yeah you just need to set a 1:1 pixel map on your TV, On LG's it's called "just scan" on most other tv's it's called "full"

I'm having the same issue on Xbox One. TV is already set to full screen. No problems with other games.

I've had this problem in other games. It's a problem that can be fixed on my bedroom TV but not my living room TV, because my bedroom TV will let me set the screen to "full pixel" if "normal" is losing information due to over scan, but the living room plasma has no such option. Frustrating stuff.

I think Beth just made the screen size of Skyrim too dang big. But I only lose out an inch on each corner, so I can live with it. It svcks, but it doesn't impair me enough to make me angry that I spent 60.00. I would get a new TV, but it sounds like this problem is universal.

I may have solved the problem on PC by setting the prefs values to fullscreen and the correct resolution for my monitor, but after Fallout 4, who knows. There may well be menus that won't fit on the screen. The letterbox that I got with the widescreen settings available in the options menu wasn't even centered. It was indented on the left and wouldn't fit on the screen to the right.

My husband and I decided after the physical release of Fallout 4 that didn't include the bulk of the game on the disc and their lack of support for standard resolutions (or bothering to mention that lack as part of the system requirements), that we will no longer buy Bethesda games until we're sure they will run on our equipment. My husband enjoyed the first Dishonored, but won't be buying DH2 next month. We used to be enthusiastic Bethesda fans, but we've found ourselves enjoying their newer games less than their older ones, and not letting folks know that they may not want to buy your game because you no longer intend to support standard resolution is just shabby.

Are you sure? Why would you have a logo running off the border of its canvas?

I'd sooner guess BGS was having texture / image size issues at certain resolutions. When I go into the skill perk tree menu on level up, to select Magicka, Health, or Stamina to contribute points to is in huge font at 1080p and lowest texture settings.

I don't know what's going on there, but pre-release images and the box art are similarly cropped. They probably decided that the logo was well known enough that they didn't need to show the whole thing. It also means the game has a distinct icon from the original, so it's easier to spot in a menu.

I'm having the large ratio problem on PS4 too, I've dropped a msg on here and sent a tweet to Bethesda - been half a day with no response, in fact there's no acknowledgement other than by fellow frustrated people online. Has ruined launch day for me

For those of you wanting to use a resolution that isn't appearing as an option in the launcher, try going to My Documents -> My Games -> Skyrim and opening up skyrimprefs.ini. Set 'iSize W' and 'iSize H' to your desired width and height, respectively, and tell us if that works.
