[RELz] ScreenEffects v1.0 - In-game Visual Enhancement Enabl

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:07 am

Interesting. Is that a setting that PCI-e users would still have? I have to admit to a fair bit of ignorance when dealing with dxdiag stuff.

I can't say that I am any better :). I have a PCI-e card myself: 8800gts OC, which is why I was confused that it was enabled.

I am not near my desktop right now, but if you run dxdiag, I believe the setting was on the display tab. There were three settings: direct draw, direct 3d, and agp texture acceleration. I left the first two enabled, and disabled the last one. I then rebooted (don't know if it was necessary, but it couldn't hurt.)

Thanks

Yeah, I found it there not long after posting. I was off on Google looking for exactly what it's supposed to do, but so far all the posts I've found are years old and mainly requests for help in why theirs is disabled. No real explanation I can find so far about what it was/is for and why it seems to be so desirable. At least in 2003 anyway. :)

I'm going to be re-making Ambient Dungeons for ScreenEffects 1.0, having gotten permission from Kalendra to use his values. I thought I better post this here to let you know another ScreenEffects 1.0 mod is coming.

Hmm, I guess that means Kalendra doesn't intend to try and re-create the last version of the mod from just before his crash? That seems a shame and I am sad to hear it.

On the other hand I am very glad that someone will pick up where he left off and continue a mod that I considered to be excellent and pretty much irreplacable once I had started using it. I still am using it, in fact, bugs and all: it's too good an addition to my game's atmosphere!

Thanks for this!

But, then I disabled AGP Texture Acceleration in Dxdiag, and now everything works perfectly.

Can someone who is still having issues test my theory and see if it works please.

I'm calling this one confirmed. I just ran 10 complete circuits around the Market District and then went on a psychotic killing spree at random in and out of interiors like mad, killing everything in sight, and not a peep about crashing. I'd say we have a winner and the information should probably be posted in the OP.

Hallelujah! Updating post as we speak.

As a side note, AGP is the old graphics card port that was used prior to PCI-E. Honestly anything capable of running Oblivion + ScreenEffects is likely using a PCI-E card. The AGP acceleration setting must conflict with something somewhere with OBGE.

@ qzilla: Unofficial Ambient Dungeons is now just straight Ambient Dungeons, though the thread is still named otherwise. You may wish to update your list of mods to reflect this.

Yep. Only thing I can figure is if you're not using a PCI-E card having AGP texture acceleration active is causing some kind of a problem. I'm quite happy to have confirmed it since I can have my Enhanced Seasons back, and give Ambient Dungeons a shot too.

If your card is AGP, then it probably won't be an issue for you. As I said above, it's probably a conflict that arises from having the setting on while using a PCI-E card. All I can say is with my 8800GTX turning that off resolved the issue.

Well that's the real issue, isn't it? :)

Logic says PCI-E shouldn't need it. So why would DX9 still have it enabled? And if having it enabled causes instability with one mod, might it also be causing general instability elsewhere? It's probably not easily tested for but I suppose someone with an unstable game could try checking that and seeing what happens.

The AGP thing probably doesn't cause problems in general, but PCs are fickle mutts and you never really know what can cause a problem.

Someone please help fast ?

There are two components: Screen Effects, which does the work, and Screen Controls, which is the mod which adds the control item. In order to use Screen Controls you will need to have the latest version of pluggy installed (link to that is in the first post).

If you're not getting the control item, then you need to make sure that
1) you have pluggy properly installed
2) you have ScreenControls.esp enabled

I have it installed, and the screencontrols loaded.
Isn't there a console code to bring it up ?
I really want to add some more shadow intensity, as they are really weak =\

There's no console code because if its not showing up then you haven't installed it right. I would recommend uninstalling, then following the instructions exactly.

*sigh* Unfortunately the problem cropped back up again on a different character over in Crucible while questing in SI. More or less the same deal, made about 5 transitions and then bam. Desktop. So I'm not sure what the deal is there since the guy I've been using in the IC still has zero problems.

A little comment here to let you know I uploaded this mod: http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=874497 using ScreenEffect. It's a shame I only use brightness and blur controls but from what I have tested with the ScreenControl.esp I'm sure to use other tweaking soon :)

Thanks for this awesome mod

Are you using screen effects by itself or are you using it because it is required by another mod? If so, which other mod or mods are you using it for?

Are you using the latest version of Ambient Dungeons? I remember I fixed a bug causing that sort of thing a bit ago, can't remember which version.
