Screens are from Xbox!

They build it on PC and then port it to the consoles. However they have to build it with console in mind first as that is a big market. If they only geared it to PC then it wouldn't go anywhere else because Microsoft won't let a game just be PC and PS3 and if PS3 is out they might as well go big and go PC only.

I have to agree with everyone else, more people will play it on consoles.
Only the more hardcoe gamers are going to play it on PC, and most of these are also the type to come on forums, which explains those poll results.
Like others have said, most of the people I know who play these games play them on consoles, including myself :)

I mean. Don't they "turn the game to consoles" from the PC once the game actually is finished?

That used to be the case some years ago. Nowadays games are made multiplatform from the get-go and all the latest technologies support the trend. You create the core of the game that's more or less platform independent and wrappers for each platform you want the game to run on. The wrapper provides UI, access to the hardware (aka HAL - Hardware Abstraction Layer), and special tweaks or patches you want on the specific platform.

The menu sure made it look like it was a screen from the XBox version: why would you need to cycle through skills if you have a mouse?

The xbox menu and pc menu are sure to be one in the same.

It shouldn't suprise anyone, we are talking Game Informer magazine here. It's a console magazine and the console is the main platform for Bethesda now. Furthermore, don't get your hopes up for better graphics for the PC and don't get your hopes up for a separate GUI for the PC either.

The game is designe for the console and then ported to the PC. Unfortunatly that's the way things work in todays gaming work.

False.
Most people buy TES for computer. There was a poll about it here not too long ago and about 35% played on consoles I think.
Now this was just a poll on this forum, but I believe it would be quite accurate in the long run too.

A poll on a message board isnt the most reliable source, I bet if you actually saw the sales figures you would see that most people brought the game on Xbox.

You're kidding right? The reason Oblivion didn't get better graphics (but they were still kinda good for their time) is not because of consoles. It was because of Gamebryo engine I believe.
Gamebryo engine in Oblivion is really really bad at rendering shadows from what I know of. Especially many shadows.
Oblivion originally had "soft shadows" for objects (not just characters) it was removed due to performance issues.

It worked well enough for the stuff they showed, which was running on hardware from before the game's release. And even if you're right, why would they take it out completely, instead of turning it off by default, knowing PCs will eventually be able to handle it? The high-end specs Oblivion recommended at its release are pretty junk (gaming-wise) today.

Also, does Todd even have a Facebook? I search "Todd Howard Facebook" on google and get diddly squat, except for maybe a fan page.

Well, then, I guess no one told Bethesda that.

And in any case, the poll results on these forums don't represent Bethesda's potential customer base as a whole, they just represent the posters on these forums, whose opinions and preferences may or may not coincide with thay of the majority of potential customers. And you really don't need a poll to see that a lot of posters on these forums prefer to play their Elder Scrolls on PCs, if they play console games at all.

But I could very well believe that the screenshots were taken on the console versions, but I'm not sure how much difference it will make at this time. Sure, modern PCs may be able to support better graphics than current consoles, but will Bethesda take advantage of this? That waits to be seen. And will Bethesda make a different interface for the PC version? That's impossible to say right now, but given what we've seen before from them, I'm leaning towards "no" for the answer.

I would be incredibly impressed with the honesty if they showed the console version of the game off in screenshots.

I would assume that they would take screenshots from a really nice gaming computer that can run the game on it's highest settings to make it look as nice and polished as possible.

Edit: Nevermind, I just saw the screenshot you posted. He should really get a twitter account...

Yes, he is on Facebook. If you search for "Todd Howard Bethesda" on Facebook, he'll be the first in the results. I found him.

The game is being designed for the XBox. Right now I would have to say, and I'm just guessing, that this game has yet to see a PC and most likely won't until about 3-4 months before the game is released.

It's more cost effective to build it for the XBox and then port it to the PC. Why even bother changing the GUI and the graphics when the modders will do it for you? I hate that I have to say that, but in todays gaming world that's just the reality of things

I'm sorry if I sound sceptical, but I still don't believe you. Could you post a link to his Facebook, because as I said, I searched for his Facebook, and all I got was a fan page.

If you do a search, he's a couple of pages down. The page also seems quite legitimate, as it is regularly updated with both professional and personal things.

I don't want to give a direct link to the profile...That seems like it would open the floodgates for a bunch of people to spam him, and that wouldn't be very nice.

I reiterate...The man should really get a Twitter profile.

Edit... I see the potential floodgates have already been open...oh well, maybe it won't be so bad.

That's good news! Thanks, Selena.

Let's hope the visuals will scale up (even higher) on a gaming PC.
