Screenshot discussion

Post » Mon May 02, 2011 9:30 pm

I've been looking for a thread that just discusses all the new screens, but have only found ones for independent screens, so I'd thought I would make one myself and point out a few things I noticed on some of them.

http://pcmedia.ign.com/pc/image/article/116/1162158/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-20110415033058580.jpg
-Log fences/barriers indicating that humans inhabit this fort.
-Possible site of a Nord clan for the civil war
-Possible bandit fort?
-Water doesn't appear to be frozen.

http://pcmedia.ign.com/pc/image/article/116/1162158/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-20110415033055955.jpg
-Smithing shop
-There is another sign for a shop, but it just looks like a regular trading shop to me, nothing special.
-Possible dog companions?

http://pcmedia.ign.com/pc/image/article/116/1162158/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-20110415033050799.jpg
-Possible pack of wolves to the left, you can only see 2 of them.
-Can't see any obvious ground patterns like you could in Oblivion, nicely laid out environment.
-Good draw distance.

http://pcmedia.ign.com/pc/image/article/116/1162158/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-20110415033045237.jpg
-Notice the slimy stuff on the spiders pincher's, the slime seems to be dripping off of them if you look close.

http://pcmedia.ign.com/pc/image/article/116/1162158/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-20110415033047799.jpg
-The candles/lanterns look as if they can be picked up like in Morrowind. (I hope so!)
-Notice the headpiece that the khajiit has on, it doesn't look like it's there for protection, possibly just magic enchanted.

http://pcmedia.ign.com/pc/image/article/116/1162158/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-20110415033053299.jpg
-In some sort of gorge, possible bridge at the top.
-2 different eye colors.
-More face paint.
-Straight up badass screenshot!

http://pcmedia.ign.com/pc/image/article/116/1162158/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-20110415033042643.jpg
-One enemy doesn't have glowing blue eyes like the others.
-Enemies seem to surround you instead of just charging in for the kill, as shown in other screenshots and the trailer also.

http://pcmedia.ign.com/pc/image/article/116/1162158/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-20110415033040503.jpg

I'd also like to point out a comment from the bit-tech article- http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/2011/04/18/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-preview/1
"Screenshots don't do the game justice; they don't convey the motion and lighting that makes this cold world seem so vibrant, and they also suggest it's just a game about bashing monsters."
I can't wait for some solid gameplay that displays all the lighting and everything.

So feel free to talk about anything relating to the new screens :).

Some more things pointed out by other members.
-The statue behind the Khajiit is the Shrine of Talos. (http://cdnstatic.gamesas.com/akqacms/files/tes/concept_art/Shrine_Of_Talos.jpg)
-The dog in #2 is a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_Wolfhound.
-Khajiit has whiskers.
-Icicles in the top right of the spider screenshot.
-Notable rust on helm.
-Khajits legs look like they're a bit bowed out which could mean the legs are more like the khajits in MW rather than in Oblivion.

Favourite is the Orc. AKA: OMG ORCS AREN'T SHINY ANY MORE!

Like what they've done with the Khajiit, as well :D

Edit: And I'd say the water in the first screenie is frozen, at least a little.

Edit 2: Could the shrine be a Daedra God? I don't think so, but I might be wrong.

The spider pic has some "niceicles" as I'll call them in the top right corner, seriously they are some nice looking icicles, shading and everything is spot on.

Wow, that Khajjit looks damned cool at least. But as for the rest... is that supposed to be water or ice in the first one? C'mon, every other game in existence can at least differentiate between the two, and what's with the horrible block hair for the orc? Dreads definitely don't look like that.

I have mixed feelings about the sticks/brush. It's really nicely done and it adds a lot to the environments but for example in the Orc shot they are so jaggy you could mistake them for a staircase. This game will benefit from some outrageous AA on the PC.

the things i have noticed in screenshot 2

the owner of the smith shop is fat

that old woman looks incredibly frail and wrinkly and over all looks like a ugly old witch

veins on the arms

possible animal companions

the helmet the main character has noticeable rust on it

did you notice that in the last pic the nord warrior is wielding what we know is a single handed sword (seen in other screens and video) as a two hander or half and a hand sword? which means bastard swords are in!

Draugrs have red blood? I would have thought it would be black or something, or that they wouldn't have blood since they are undead reanimated corpses...

Holy shamizzle! The Khajiit and Orsimer are looking pretty snazzy :D Makes me tempted to play one...almost. I still prefer good 'ol Bretons :)

Its also hard to tell but the Khajits legs look like they're a bit bowed out which could mean the legs are more like the khajits in MW rather than in Oblivion.

I love the environment in the Orc pic.

I think it's awesome as well. It's very different to anything in the last game.

Doesn't really look fat, looks like the standard Nord.

It kinda looks frozen, but then again you can see wave like ripples which tell me that the wind is blowing unfrozen water. It seems like a part of Skyrim that is cold enough to freeze that little bit of water, but what do I know, I'm sure there will be some frozen lakes/ponds throughout Skyrim so I'm not worried.

screenshot 3

on the left there appears to be either wild goats or wolves (if they are wolves the rest of the packs out of view)

incredibly steep jagged mountains in the background

possible bird on the rotting log may be a finch of some kind

I dont see anybody talking about that statue behind the khajiit but that looks like a giant snake not a dragon, also I think that is the same creature that is under the main character in the picture for the background of this forum...

Looks more like the wall from the trailer that shows the same guy standing on top of and stabbing the same snake.

It's been shown that this is a statue of Talos. There is concept art that is literally the same. Sorry no link...

The Khajiit has whiskers and legs are bent more than usual.

The Fort could possibly be Labyrinthian, 200 years later.
