[IDEA/REQ] Scripted Argonian Feet patch?

Post » Mon Apr 25, 2011 5:07 am

I'm actually not a huge fan of the beast races, but it has always bothered me that in vanilla oblivion, Argonians and Khajiit have normal feet. Argonian Beautification with http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=33396 is therefor a godsend except one thing; for anyone not using TFF or Robert's Females, the mod is incompatible.

I'm not asking for someone to do a full on mesh edit for my female body replacer of choice (happens to be HGEC). Rather, I'd like for someone who knows what they are doing to create a patch that would benefit everyone who is not using TFF or Robert's Females but would like to use Scripted Feet. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11217 got me thinking that it might be pretty easy to make a package that gave only the female argonians the TFF or Robert's Females meshes. I think it's a fair compromise until Drake gets around to releasing a version for each replacer.

What do you guys think? Doable? Anyone interested in mixing this up?

If it's only support for other bodies you want, that's only a matter of meshes not scripting or plugin settings. My plugin as well as my scripts don't care what bodies you're using. It's the custom body meshes and adapted item meshes which have to fit your respective body.

I already went ahead on this a while ago by seperating the full v0.5b package into a download for the plugin only and seperate downloads for the base body meshes (no adapted clothing/armor items yet) for the different bodies. If I'd have more free time, I'd already have finished the other v3.0 updates of Argonian Beautification and with this also the latest state body meshes for all bodies supported by AB (HGEC for example is high up on my todo list due to its high fame). But even without this, all meshes you need for support for other bodies are included in the respective AB packages already. There's just a little work to be done, like taking some apart, to get the right parts into the right files.

In a "base body meshes" package for SAF (female here) there are only the files "femalefeet_ABfeet.nif" (the Argonian feet aligning perfectly to the slighty-bent Argonian legs), "femalefeet_ABffc.nif" (Argonian feet aligning better, yet not perfectly, to regular human legs, as the ones inside not-yet-adapted leg clothing) and "femalelegs_ABfeet.nif" (the slightly-bent Argonian legs). Maybe there's also a "femalelegs_nvde_ABfeet.nif" (nvde variant of the previous, as the default is always the underwear it is in the body mod), possibly also further underwear options like this, or even "femaleupperbody_ABfeet.nif" (a special Argonian-only upperbody, for example reptilian-style without briasts or something, like an HGEC AA-cup, or like I always did a GGC Blind upperbody for use with TFF, which will only be used though when you turned on this optional feature of my scripts via a console command "set ABraceQuest.enableUpper to 1" issued once and saved in your savegames from then on).

Now to the interesting part. To create the 3 main files you actually already have all you need in the respective AB package for your body/body mod. The "femalefeet_ABffc.nif" is the exact same as the "femalefeetONLY.nif" for jdayT's mod, just copy and rename or something. The "femalelegs_ABfeet.nif" is the exact same as the "femalelowebody.nif". You just might have to copy-branch&paste-branch your underwear over into it from the HGEC legs of your choice with NifSkope. The "femalefeet_ABfeet.nif" might be a little more complex to do, but it's still no rocket science. Take the "femalefeet.nif" for jdayT's mod and remove-branch the legs and stuff with NifSkope until only the feet remain. Done. It's actually that simple I'm really ashamed I haven't done it myself, yet... but with little-to-no free time at all you're quite picky when it comes to choosing which project to advance at least a tiny bit this time, and unfortunately SAF or AB are always coming too short then.

You know, SAF is reactive to the NIF files in your folders and doesn't need any changes to scripts or the plugin (well apart from the obvious bugfixes and improvements on my list). You put a new adapted NIF file for some clothing or armor of your choice into its proper location and it will be used when you next start Oblivion and load your game. The "tags" in the filenames are all that's needed. For any slots but foot it's only "_ABfeet". For foot items there will always be 2 though, according to the 2 foot body meshes there are, "_ABfeet" for the ones fitting also-adapted legs and "_ABffc" (Feet For Clothing) for the ones "better" fitting regular non-adapted legs. For female feet the difference is just 0.5 units translation forward in NifSkope, so it's closer to where the regular ankles are. (For the male it was 2.5, but I'm not sure.)

Well, I hope this helps at least a little already and beg your pardon for the incredibly long delay to which there's still no end in sight.
Oh, and thanks for your interest in my little mod.

Hehe, well, I wasn't apologizing for the length of my writing... maybe I should though sometimes... no, it's the incredibly long time without any progress with my mods I was apologizing for, for letting you all wait that long. :nope:
