Sea Monsters?

Post » Sun Nov 07, 2010 4:18 am

I'm making a TES Rp, and I don't really want to screw anything up really bad, so sorry for the ridiculous question. As the title states, I'm curious about Sea Monsters, and my question is; Are there any Sea Monsters in TES Lore? If not, it's fine, but would it hurt to have them? I mean I think it would be cool if people went out to sea, and came up against some giant Sea Serpent!? Thanks for the replies. :D

In reference to the Maormer:
"They also practice a powerful form of snake magic. With this, they have tamed the sea serpents of their island for use as steeds and warbeasts."http://www.imperial-library.info/pge/wildregions.shtml

And then you've got previously listed ones along with Lamia and the Emperor Crabs (at least I think that's the proper name), such as what the Redoran live in at Ald'ruhn.

Wasn't there some mention in the 1st PGE about rusting dragons sleeping or living in the waters around the Imperial City itself? Might not technically be "sea serpents" as you're thinking and they certainly didn't show up in the game but worth a note nonetheless.
Unless I got my info wrong or mixed it up with something else, that's much more probable.

Not exactly sea serpents, but sloads? Because no one knows if they have a limit to their size, it could be conceivable that one might run into a gigantic Slug-like creature in the water. Not that if you got close it would reveal itself, or even attack if confronted. Just tossing out some ideas.

Indeed a massive Cthulu like character. That would be epic.

There are sea monsters, aye, but it's the giant spiked water at the edge of the map you really have to look out for.

Sloads are not giant sea monsters...they're fat, repulsive Hutts who happen to practice Necromancy. The influence from the Star Wars characters of the Hutts is obvious when observing their character design. They're meant to be repulsive and vile, but still sentient. Not true monsters.

good point but they could be mistaken for them just as manatees were thought to be mermaids

We could see ... that the Sload Priests talk to their new God of Worms ... we could see all this and know that it is true.
Because there are still sload in existance, I'm going to say they regulate the size one may become. They are notorious for filial cannibalism, and I'm sure a giant among them couldn't resist gulping its neighbors.

edit: the quote purports the existance of late third era sload, which is a matter of debate

There are actual real, honest to goodness monsters in the Elder Scrolls universe. We just haven't seen them yet, which is all the more evidence they exist.

Any type you can think of really.

Kraken, Sea Serpent, Mecha Steissand, Weresharks. I know this because a Khajiit outside of Anvil told me. He was wearing a grey hooded robe. He knows much, tells some. He told me he knew of the exact whereabouts of a codex not only with a list of every type of monster in existence but also their stats and biography, including monsters from the unreleased game World of Scrollcraft - the Search for more Money.

It doesn't help, I know, but I remember either reading something or imagining something where an O gate opened in the Topal Bay and among the Daedric ships (which used scamps and Daedroths for labor and bent Daedric souls to actually power the thing) that sailed out of it, there were also unspecified Daedric monsters that darted in the shadows.

Sweet. There are giant lesser Daedra in the form of sea monsters prowling around the Topal Bay and the deep oceans even as we speak.

We must assemble a team of adventurers to stop them, including at least one Paladin, peferebly one with "good hlz".

So would it be a stretch to say there are Snake like "Sea Serpents"? It would be sorta interesting, and interesting to involve Sea Serpents in my Rp, but I don't really want to make the Rp into a screwed up lore mess

No, that would be fine. Because to be honest, Bethesda hasn't really given us much to go on in terms of aquatic life - surely there's significantly more out there than dreugh and slaughterfish. Also, since TES seems to incorporate most typical fantasy creatures, a snake-like sea serpent will fit right in...
