Searching the forum and the net for solutions to CTD

I have the GOTY ed. through Steam. Recently installed FCOM from a clean install. I've read the troubleshooting I could find on modding the steam version of the game and everything seemed to go kosher. Even Wrye Bash game me flying colors to proceed. No problems with any omods or installations for FCOM.

Soon as I try to start the game through steam (or even if I remove the OBSE steam file(s)) the game gives me a quick black screen than crashes. Don't even think much is loaded before the crash. Curious if anyone else has had the same problem.

I continue to investigate, thought I'd make a post and see if anyone more learned than I could shed light on the mystery. Thank you.

This kind of crash means you are missing a master file, may you please post your load order and run OBMM's conflict detector to see what you are missing.

Don't know much about the Steam version, but CTD's on startup are generally caused by missing masters (which you can check with Wrye Bash) or something in the Oblivion.ini. Try deleting Oblivion.ini from My Documents/My Games/Oblivion (not certain that's the location with Steam installs) and let the game generate a new one on startup.
