Seasons greetings.

I remember in the game jame for skyrim one of the features a designer had was seasonal changes and I just loved that idea!
but it was never implamented into skyrim I was wondering what are the chances bethesda gave fallout 4 this feature?
I mean from the trailers and such we see vegatation around the city and remote places though because of the whole "wasteland" situation I dont know how much of a difference seasonal changes would make.
Maybe from summer to winter will have a noticable change but from spring to summer might look relativaly the same. Well anyway what do you guys think the chances of this feature being in the game?

It's an interesting feature for sure, but that feature also depends on how much game time the player elapses, so everything that comes with the season; the snow, the rain, the storms, the leaves, the temperature – it could all be missed if someone doesn't play the game for too long.

I think that's why Bethesda will put more time into crafting unique environments with their own unique feelings and maybe they'll create some weather systems, but I wouldn't expect them to incorporate seasons.

EDIT: I just did a quick google and apparently Skyrim PC players played Skyrim on average for 75 Hours. I think knowing this number could very well justify incorporating seasons. It would definitely sustain a player should they be getting into their 70th hour of Fallout 4.

Seasonal changes, I'd be interested to see something like that implemented. Loving the fact Fo4 has weather conditions now.

How awesome would it be that, only on Christmas day, a supermutant wearing a dirty Santa outfit shows up and gives you something?

"HAVE YOU BEEN A GOOD BOY!?"
"Oh, dear, God, I hope so."

The effects of a post-nuclear apocalypse would not change the tilt of the earth and the subsequent solstice and equinox, so if they did implement seasons it would be interesting to see how they'd do it since which the seasons may stay around the same time, their behavior could be very different. For example, summer could have intense heat due to a damaged ozone and radiation storms and winter could have violent storms that roll in with very little warning, with spring perhaps having very clamorous and vicious thunder and lightning storms with radiation effects. It would be very interesting to see it be done!

I don't think it's worth it. Relatively few people would play a single character long enough to get a full taste of every season. I don't know how 200 years of radioactivity would affect the climate, but do you realize how awful this past winter was for Boston? It was shut down completely for days at a time. Traversing that on foot would be insanely frustrating if they try for realism, and if they don't try for realism, what's the point?

It might be a cool mod, but this is one "realism" feature I'd rather not see in the base game. Unless you're looking for something rather basic - randomly generated rain from March to November, replaced with light snow in the winter.

In one interview they discuss how there will be radiation storms. That should be interesting.

Guys. Just like to ask. Steam is required to install the game. And I've heard once it is installed you can play offline. Now I'm hearing you need to stay connected. What exactly is happening to Fallout 4 invloving steam and internet connection

Steam has always had a kind of DRM but there's also offline mode for steam. The game wont need a connection except for installation, updates and verification. If people are saying you need to stay connected it could have something to do with things accumulating ingame over real time. and an online connection needed to verify you didn't just set your clock forward. Or it could be just to verify your game on launch every time. Either way it wont require much bandwidth at all.

That's totally off-topic and it would have been better to ask in a more applicable topic or make a new thread, but oh well. I don't see why you'd need to stay connected once the game has been authenticated and it's ready to go, unless there's official word about having to always be connected I think offline play will still be possible. But does it matter for you, will your pc sometimes not have internet?

i think for a game like Skyrim it will feet cool on it, but for Fallout season change mean season are still the same and no one know what happen about a nuclear Apocalypse, i will love to have like long winter seasons and hot summer.

What does your dad using the internet have anything to do with your pc having limited internet? Are you on dial-up or only have one internet cable? haha does not compute

Maybe green snow that glows in the dark? Lol but this is one of those things that will add to the experiance but wont matter much if left out.

Okay, that made me laugh!

"Pig skin! You're in for some presents?!"

OT; i would love different seasons as i will propably play one character long enough to see them all, but as mentioned many players dont and i agree with QueenJellyFish on the idea of how this 'realism' feature could be a bad play due to simple reasons.

I'm all for it just from a visual standpoint, forget about having extreme "buried in snow" realism. But yeah, the hiccup with it is that people usually don't spend enough in-game time to actually notice it. They might use a system similar to that gamejam, though, to further improve weather effects.

All that said, are there even seasons in the Fallout universe any more? I read that all of the nukes basically congealed the Earth's climate into a single, ceaseless summer. I know that there wasn't necessarily global desertification, but then I also know that a lot of what we've seen looks like the desert here in Arizona. And there isn't much in the way of "seasons" here.

Boston has rather drastic season changes (and hell, pretty drastic hour to hour weather changes too). I've had it close to 100f in the summer and in the winter you can, for example, get so much snow the city has to be shut down. I think seasons would fit great if done properly. It would need to be a balance between drastic change of the environment and not inconveniencing people too much which would be hard to strike.

Sounds like Melbourne here in Australia. Four seasons in one day. Freezing in winter, hot in summer. Although no snow.

Yes I agree making the weather changes aesthetics is a good idea just something to enhance the the environmental atmosphere of the game. I remember playing twilight princess and visting the fishing hole my first two playthroughs i had no idea that when you keep exiting and entering the place the seasons change. it was so cool i just loved seeing the same place change from winter to spring. If its not in fo4 maybe tes6?

Fun fact: Daggerfall actually had seasons. Textures would swap for snowy versions, weather would change, and there were even winter songs on the soundtrack. Of course, that's a game where fast-travel takes a few in-game days, up to months.

It would be nice but I believe it's a feature better left to MMO's where as a player you may be playing the game for 1, 2 or even 3 years.

Tom Clancy's The Division is set at Christmas and I think that setting will get old once summer hits. Seasons would keep that kind of game fresh.

I definitely like the idea of seasons. I am one of those players who has "The" character, so I invest a lot of time on one character. Seeing the season change around me would be amazing. If there's some sort of survival mode it would be interesting to see how the season effects that too.
