Seasons !

Skyrim has a Scandinavian Theme, and in Scandinavia during the summer it's hot and during the winter it's very cold, should they implement Seasons or would it be too hard ?

I love seasons in games, if they dont have them im sure someone will mod them in. Assuming the game will be modable (BETTER BE! :toughninja: )

The elder scrolls games already have seasons, maybe not as obvious as what you're describing, but they do have seasons.

That would be amazing...difficult to do, but amazing nonetheless.

They better. I'm sick of bland environments with hardly any weather effects, no changing seasons etc. I mean come on Bethesda, just look at the Earth. Many different types of weather, many different natural phenomenon, many different seasons. And what about meteor showers or different moon schedules or Auroras or anything like this that exists IRL. None of these are in games. Would it be too hard? I don't think so....

I'd love to have seasons, but I don't know how hard they would be to implement in the game.

I think the biggest problem is the snow that accumulates over the winter months. Creating that asset that is transitory between seasons is a big hassle. I hope they have a happy medium between winter/fall/spring/summer environments though. The winter's where I currently live, the sun never comes out :[

YES! It might be too much but they should also be visual (some trees don't have leaves, water freezes, etc.)

I can't believe no one made a topic about this

I was about to.

They have "seasons", but there are no visible differences. It's the same as if beth decided to keep time but have the sun out at all times.

Changing the trees would be difficult, but slight variations in weather would be nice.

Who says Nirn is a round planet like earth?

If Nirn is a flat world, then there might as well be no seasons. Everything is in stasis unless some higher being decides to change something.

If Nirn doesn't spin and it's sun turns around Nirn in the exactly the same manner each day there'd be no seasons.

Yea! I think they should!
It would take a hell lot of time to create but hey, still :D

Leaving in Denmark I experienced the Scandinavian seasons change, and it's beautiful.

And it would look even better in the game! :P

Except, they have months with names like First Seed and Rains Hand to coincide with Spring, and Frost Fall near the end of the year to mark the beginning of winter.

iirc, the seasons were visibly noticeable in ARENA.

Yes, seasons were visible in older games. At the very least, I'd like "Snow" and "Not Snow" happen throughout the year.

Yeah, at least recognisable weather patterns by season.

It would be awesome if some caves were only available during certain seasons of the game.

For example, in Winter, a lake freezes and at the bottom of the lake is an enterance to a underwater cave. It is impossible to reach it unless you have a mining pick/axe of some sort to chip away enough of the ice to get into the cave.

Eh, now that you think of it... This is a stupid idea. :sadvaultboy:

Hopefully. They have a new engine as well so it shouldn't be very hard. I hope for snow storms and blizzards in the winter. :)

It's actually quite easy to implement seasons. The game detects what month it is, then uses a probability calculator geared towards one side depending on the season, and then boom, seasons. Of course I don't know the game's programming but that's the easiest way I could think of. Of course frozen water and tree coloring would have scripts running day and night, detecting months, days, and even changing the water programming. So yeah...seasons are cool and all, but the best they can do would be only weather without causing severe lag or requiring ridiculous computer requirements.
