Second Gen Ghouls

Post » Sat Oct 27, 2012 7:52 am

Before this thread is considered being about Future Fallout Games Ideas and suggestions, let me clarify: It's simply about some of the ideas that was supposed to be in Van Buren. And NOT about F4 or 5 or whatever...

Well, on to it.

The Fallout Bible mentions that Second Generation Ghouls was supposed to be implementet in Van Buren.

What is your feelings about this? Is it still a good idea? What do we know about Ghoul anatomy?

2nd gen? You mean the who 'give birth' thing?
I would love it. Reservation that is, not just the procreation part.
But not with Bethesda. I wnat whoever designed it originally to be in charge of implementing it into a Fallout game.

I don't mind the idea of curing sterility among mutants, but a wondercure should not be there with the snap of fingers.
No, it should require sacrifice, it should require martyrs, it should require time, effort and failures before succession.
If it has a good backstory I am all for curing sterility and having 2nd gen ghouls.

As to the ghoul anatomy it's basically like the human anatomy in the essential places. They have hearts that pump blood which requires oxygen that is absorbed by the lungs which are working by muscles and so on and so forth.
The changes between ghouls and humans is that their bodies constantly rot and regenerate, while a humans cells can only go through 7 stages (I think it was 7) during our lifetime and when the 7th one is in line we're in a dying state the ghoul's cells have a higher amount of stages OR they replace their lost cells with new ones constantly.
I don't know how radiation works with them though and why they're immune.
And they for some reason have low or no body heat.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Sebastian_%28Van_Buren%29 at your service. I'm with you on that on. The resevation, from what i've read, sounded like a really cool idea.

I get the myosis/mitosis thing. I always cut the ghoul longevity up to something along the line of how cancer cells are made and behave. That unlike normal cells they seem to be able to split as many times as they want without depleting, thus making them seemingly immortal. (I know cancer is a Hot Button topic and i'm not trying to sound insensetive, sorry for any inconvenience.)

I am against it. It doesn't make much sense that ghouls could ever have children. No matter how much mad Fallout science goes into it. Weren't the born ghouls supposed to be ghouls created with FEV and radiation or something like that. Pretty much the old lore. The new canon says ghouls are created only with radiation.

I would rather they put such and idea into super mutants, not ghouls ==> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roY9pkQDZdA

I agree with Styles here, Ghouls aren't like super-mutants in that SMs are an entirely new race where-as Ghouls are just heavily mutated humans; they're genetic freaks and say what you like about super-mutants but they were kinda engineered that way. Ghouls have been exposed to a very high amount of radiation and "wackiness" aside radiation does have some very serious affects that are included in Fallout, namely, infertility - hell the Vault City residents were having fertility problems from radioactive contamination in their water supply never mind being a [censored] Ghoul. Ghoul children are just a bad idea in my opinion, they aren't a seperate species in the same way that super-mutants are

No ghoul kids or reproduction. I don't really like the idea of "second gen ghouls", unless we're talking about a new wave of mutated humans (which seems to happen all the time anyway). Ghouls should practically be dying off now as people become aware through various technology as to what areas are safe to inhabit and what areas aren't. It's weird that there is all this stuff in the game to avoid radiation, and yet somehow people are still mutating as if they don't know where they're going is dangerous.

Caravans have established routes that are safe, entire regions have been conquered and "civilized" (Legion/NCR)... there really shouldn't be that many ghouls wandering around anymore. I mean, we're talking about the near extinction of the human race (relatively small pool of possible ghouls), and nearly two hundred years of ghoul persecution (Fallout 1-2). The fact that there are any "intelligent" ghouls left is a miracle by my imagining, let alone ferals.

Agree with Styles and Enclave for reasons already stated. Would be great to see "born" super mutants though.
