We've been given no information, save that at some point and time in the future, it will exist.

I heard it was supposed to involve some kind of Wood Elf fellowship. They come into possession of some kind of ring artifact, and it has to be dropped into Red Mountain's lava craters before the armies of Daedra march all over Nirn. It's going to have some large-scale epic battles, but mostly centered on a handful of heroes with a miraculous talent for avoiding any actual danger. Anyway, things get out of hand, and they have to make a final defense at some impenetrable keep.
Impenetrable, hah! The Titanic laughs at thee!

I heard it was about a know-nothing young, and quite annoying, Bosmer who receives a message one day that he is to study at the Arcane University. He befriends a group of misfits: A big hairy Nord, a red-haired human, and a know-it-all girl. They get into much mischief, but that's only a small part of the story. For the Bosmer is actually the one who will save all the mages from Mannimarko, who will return to destroy them all, once and for all.

I haven't read it, I suppose some day I will. I just catch wind of details through here.

I thought it was pretty good. It's only half a novel though, and everything ends in a cliffhanger. You might be better off waiting for the second book and reading them both together.

Not exactly, you see
Spoiler
The Ministry of Truth crashes into Vvardenfell making Red Mountain erupt. So Vvardfell is destroyed, not all of Morrowind. Still though, I don't know if I would say destroyed - the land is still there, just a lot of people are dead.

I haven't read it, but Greg Keyes is definitely a first class writer.

I was going to order the TES novel but ended up buying his Age of Unreason novels instead (the subject matter appealed) and I am very impressed.

I read it a few weeks ago and it's worth buying, though I'd suggest waiting until the price drops even further. It's only half of a novel, basically, at 288 pages and trade-paperback size. Keyes is imaginative, though, and respectful of the Elder Scrolls mythos.

I heard it was about a know-nothing...

I heard Attrebus comes out of the closet and proclaims his love for squire Eunric Gumbols.

the second through eleventh novels center around Glim bringing the Truth of Objectivism to the people of Umbriel. it is known.

(there are three references in this post. kudos to those who find them.)

No, only northern Morrowind was. Southern Morrowind is just fine, except for all of the Dunmer the Argonians slaughtered.

All right, I'll bite. :P
Are we talking http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Objectivism_(Ayn_Rand) or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Objectivity_(philosophy)#Objectivism?
Or am I missing the mark entirely?

In all seriousness, yes the book is good. it takes place 40 years after the Oblivion Crisis, so that should go a ways toward setting when TES V will take place.

oh, definitely Rand. I hadn't heard of realism called objectivism prior to now.

the game supposedly takes place 200 years after Oblivion, which means that most of what is true in the books probably wont be true when the game rolls around. a lot changes in 150 years, its nearly useless to speculate on game setting based on the books.

Yeah, in TES 5 Vvardenfell will probably be pretty much as it was before without the big cities and with more Argonians. Hell in 150 years trees have enough time to grow and people enough time to rebuild o:

http://kotaku.com/5388787/elder-scrolls-novel-potentially-confirms-elder-scrolls-v

A book blurb on the Waterstone's retail site reads "A novel that takes places forty-five years after the Oblivion Crisis, which is the story of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion game and the expansion pack Shivering Isles. It partly bridges the gap for the next game, which is set 200 years after the Oblivion crisis."

Of course that hasn't been confirmed by Bethesda.
