5 seconds of Skyrim footage - leaked Demo

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 9:01 am

Wow, it's 5 pages again? I don't think there's anything new I could see in those vids.

Why do people make comments like this..? Obviously people have stuff to talk about. Big deal..? Get over it?
You're not the only person on this forum. There will probably be a third thread. Do you know how many people come to this forum? A lot of people. Not everyone is on at the exact same time. Therefore, people discuss things for hours and hours.

What a true statement.. But i must admit... Many people on the Bethesda Forums complain... So if i were you i would probably learn not to react to all the complaining and whining...

Well, it matters when console players read his comments and expect a fluid 60FPS, and end up disappointed when they find the game usually runs at 30FPS. I'm pretty certain Oblivion was targeted to 30FPS on consoles... and it still had its dips into the teens.

I don't know why anyone would expect both a massive visual upgrade and a doubling of the FPS, either. It's more likely they kept the same FPS target, and worked on fitting more polygons onto the screen.

Yes...that's what console players were thinking "Omg we are going to have 60 GPS because our framerate bottleneck has been lifted". I mean seriously, I know your obviously a video enthusiast but that's not how most people think and that's not what mine or anyone's comments were aiming for, it's called speculation. Also, I think your confusing film FPS with video game FPS. Yes, the video might be in 30 FPS but you can still estimate the FPS of a game by look. Even in a 30 FPS video, you can tell when a game is running at low FPS (which you will see on youtube in several videos). FPS can still be relatively judged in a video.

I think that Bethesda should show us a few minutes of the hour-long video that the media has seen. Come on, Todd! Throw us a frickin' bone here! We've had practically new new info since the Game Informer stuff.

You seem to have slightly misunderstood my post. The latter wasn't related to the former in any way, I was just saying there was nothing new to see, and I was just wondering that people have discussed so much in such a short time, and not because I don't understand that due to me thinking there is nothing new.

Well, to bring the topic back to discussing more video details..

Personally I cannot stand the idle left hand animation with the fire spell. If they're going for that Bioshock-esque spell-in-hand look.. they should make the hand look more natural while it's idle. Who walks around holding a fireball up to their chest like that, with their hand positioned in such a strange way? I noticed the same stale, awkwardly stiff positioned spell-hand in the screenshots as well. Not impressed. If anything comes to mind from this, regardless if it's only 5 seconds or not from this clip, I shudder at the thought of Bethesda's animators still pumping out garbage content and calling it worthy of a AAA video game. Even some of the 3rd person combat from the trailer was awkwardly animated, with characters' limbs (arms, back/neck mostly) bending far beyond natural ability with human fluidity not being sustained.

I sure hope these animations aren't going to make it into the master of the game the way they are. Otherwise, I guess we'll all have to run around feeling like we're a bipedal construct of silly putty. :sadvaultboy:

I actually really like the look of the spell emanating in the hand. I think its going to look really cool dual wielding spells, especially separate spells.

Same here. I especially want to see what shock spells on target looks like...hopefully with a more realistic sound effect to go along with it. In OB it sounded like someone pushed a shopping cart into a wall or something.

You don't notice much, huh?

Let's recap;

Dynamic Snow.
Fire spell (particle movements.)
1h axe, how it looks (awesome btw.)
Skeleton/Lich popping out of coffin.
Overall look of dungeon.
Overall look of game in action besides the trailer.
Oh, and our first in-game look of the Compass.

That's quite a bit of stuff :o

Alright I didn't see the Skeleton/Lich thing the first time, that part is interesting.

The overall look of the dungeon is way too low res because it was on a screen being filmed.
An image of a one-handed axe that, while certainly cool looking, is fairly standard is hardly exciting.
It is barely gameplay and if Bethesda tried to make those few seconds in that quality an official release fans would rage.
We already knew about dynamic snow, however it is not really dynamic in that trailer as all we see is it floating down. No accumulation or anything like that that makes it dynamic.
The fire spell effects were already in the trailer at around the 1:32 mark
No matter how many times I watch that slowed version I do not see any sign of a compass. I see someone's computer screen, not a compass.

Believe I'm excited about this and I am waiting eagerly for just about any scraps, but even the Grinch left more than what was in that trailer.

That wasn't trailer footage, that's actual gameplay. That was Todd controlling Dovahkiin.
