Secret Map Locations

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:47 am

Frodo and Sam needed Gollum to find the secret back way to Mount Doom, not that it was much safer, hahaha. They knew where Mount Doom was, but didn't know how to get there. Gollum was at times disloyal, running off to save his own derriere when the chips were down.

Should Skyrim offer this kind of situations, that would then require the making of friends or guides to help you navigate to your destination? And if so, should the guides be 100% loyal or have a disloyalty "fear factor" that rules their behavior when the sky darkens and doom descends?

It could be a way to save some of the mystery of the game for later levels of the story. And if they added these features, we'd be able to use them in making Mods with cool companions who (like Rangers) know only some key locations, meaning you need those Companions for those particular areas, meaning you would be often switching out your Companions in order to navigate the impassible terrain leading to your destination.

I think the feature is pretty cool if it went in even if they didn't use it for Skyrim default game. If only for the Mods....

It would be interesting. I would at the very least like it if some things were never marked on the map unless you actually entered the location or people told you about it in the game. I just refound the secret entrance to Bruma because I haven't done the MQ in ages. It is something that makes me go "Holy **** that was there the whole time?" I then proceed to save and open the game in the CS to see if it was always there or just from a mod lol.

I made a topic about this, regarding Beth saying something along the lines of "you'll be able to explore every valley, treetop and settlement at your own leisure". I hope we'll not be able to zoom in or that there'll be fog or something on areas we haven't explored yet.

Well they did say we can only fast travel to places we have been before. I think that we may have a similar large map to Oblivion, but it won't have any map markers you haven't explored and if you zoom in you get to the local map which has the same FoW as precious games.

That's possible. Just having a short motion blur animation of zooming into the local map would do. Places you haven't been to yet won't have any local maps.

Well, I think you're talking about the "Local" map, and I'm sure they are keeping things the same there, with the fog of war over it as usual for the places you haven't visited yet. But my post is intended for the Big OverView Map of All Skyrim, so that even on this map, some areas are hidden because nobody ever goes there but a few insane or daredevil-style people who later become guides for profit. So that the only way you can go there is through their help, and hopefully the area offers a sort of maze where you have multiple paths but your guide always knows which road to take so you feel like he's actually guiding you through the maze and that he's worth it. If he's a great guide, he may even stop to warn you sometimes before you get to dangerous places where monsters frequently are know to dwell, so you aren't surprised and can buff yourself up while he goes and hides in the bushes until after you call for him again.

Stuff like that, hahaha.

My topic's concerning hiding areas while in the "big" map. I thought we'd be able to explore the world in real 3D thorugh the map, thus spoiling everything.

Haha, yeah. Maybe they could make some easter egg quest where this guide takes ou into the huge caves in the mountains, and all of a sudden the guide's gone, his song echoing through the caves and a giant spider leaps at you! Afterwards, you can decide what to do with him. >: D}

I wonder how far a guide would help with the "Radiant Story" giving different destinations for quests depending on where you've been.
