To my great surprise, I was wrong!
I started up a new play-through earlier today, and things were going fairly standard. I escaped the sewers, and made way to Weynon Priory. After dropping off the A.O.K., I decided to take a detour into Chorrol, and see what kind of fun I could stir up on my own.
Making my way through the familiar streets, everything seemed ordinary. Then, all of a sudden, the combat music started playing, and I could hear shouts coming from the road by Renoit's. Hoofing it to the scene, I arrived just in time to see an unfamiliar looking NPC crumple to the ground in a heap.
I put the cursor over his body, and it read "Eugal Belette". He had a Commentary on his person, so he was evidently a sleeper agent. That alone was enough to freshen things up for me, as I'd never been attacked so early by the Mythic Dawn. Usually, it was well after delivering Martin to Cloud Ruler Temple.
The only really interesting thing he had on his body was a key to his home here in Chorrol. Trying to find ways to kill time, I decided to go investigate. Upon entering his house, the first thing I noticed was that everything was very dimly lit. There were cobwebs everywhere, and it was very unkempt.
After checking the upstairs for anything interesting, and turning up nothing, I turned my attention to the basemant, which was the only place left to explore. Using the key to unlock the door, I immediately knew something was off when I saw an eerie candle-stand putting off an unsettling reddish-yellow glow.
Going carefully down the steps, I came to another door, which was also locked. Preparing myself, I opened it and bore witness to a rather obvious lair of nefariousness. It was the whole nine yards, complete with skulls, red candles, and Mythic Dawn robes!
Needless to say, I was quite happy that this old game still has a few secrets left to reveal to me.
What about you all? Ever thought you'd seen it all, and then had that thought blown out of the water?
TLDR: I thought I'd seen it all, but I hadn't, further cementing my love for Oblivion.
