Security question for me: Save or not?

Post » Sat Jan 03, 2015 4:02 am

Last summer Microsoft released an update that was able to find a trojan, which slipped past almost every antivirus program unrecognized. It was found on my old system. I have a new one now and want to avoid new infections as far as possible.

Before that incident, Kaspersky had given me some virus warnings on several of my downloads at TESNexus. Now I wonder if I can dare to download mods there again? After all, I could have caught this trojan on other modding sides or with a freeware game es well, though I tried to avoid downloads from pages that were not marked as trustworthy by web of trust. What are your experiences with TESNexus? Do you think it's save?

I've been a member of TESNexus since 2003. I have downloaded several hundred mods from the site over the years. I have never gotten a virus or trojan from downloading any mod from the site. In fact, I have never gotten a virus from downloading any mod from any site.

I have. Years ago, when I downloaded mods for Morrowind. Now, I'm not a huge mods user and the few I have for Skyrim, that I downloaded on the nexus, are safe... but they do not involve installing .dll files on my system or using executables.
