Security vs. Resistance 5

Post » Tue Dec 14, 2010 7:37 am

I think it's because people aren't fully aware of the fact that Security & Resistance are not the same like Alliance & Horde, but like Counterterrorists & Terrorists.

I think this as well.

A lot of people here are narrow minded when it comes to things like chosing a side, bodytype, class.

Vive la resistance :gun:

When you see a giant in a hockey mask covered in tattoos sporting a mini gun that shoots 600 rounds per minute of pure death and destruction you run, plain and simple :mohawk:

Ill be right there waiting for you

I see it as somewhere in between those two. Merc.

Sadly, you're right. Some people have no responsibility and those same people blame others for their own faults. It's sad really.

After watching Code Geass episode 1, reminded me a lot about Brink. The security heads knew what was in this container (a girl) but the soldiers were told it was poison gas that the Japanese were going to use, the resistance stole the container in order to use the poison gas to get their freedom, since that's what they found out is in it, but both parties find out it's a girl inside. Similar to Brink's whole idea, one was fighting believing they were saving their city, other was trying to fight back and get their freedom.

Don't mess with us security guys, I WILL slapacommie. Damn commies.

Adding to sig now....

Anyway, suppose I look at the story overly critically, but i see it as: the Resistance are fighting for equality in a situation where equality will leave everyone with too few resources to live. (Hence, communism. And we all know how well that worked out for a bunch of Eastern Bloc countries). The Security, on the other hand, is fighting to preserve a portion of the population at the cost of the rest. They're fighting so that humanity will remain, whatever the cost. Neither is right, but I would rather side with the brutal but practical than the ideological but futile.

I am completely open to exploring both sides of the battle. I understand the motivation of the Resistance, and it's hard not to sympathize with self-preservation. However, there needs to be some check against mob rule, and the Security is providing that.

Absolutes exist, unless you're some kind of a nihilist, but refusing to examine alternative viewpoints and oversimplifying complex social problems rarely leads to anything good.

I suppose I'm oversimplifying the issue, but ultimately, the ingame politics take a back seat to gameplay, and The Bug looks badass. :gun:

Oh, I didn't mean for that to be directed toward you. I actually tend to lean more toward your direction, and also prefer the aesthetics of the Security as well. Honestly, it seems to me that it's slightly more often the hardcoe Resistance supporters that somewhat short-sighted.

I was more pro-security until it was revealed that they weren't letting the refugees leave. That's an area where the rationalization is immaterial to me, as it clashes with my personal ethics regarding initiatory force/aggression.

But on the other side of that, the "self-preservation" motive of the Resistance is somewhat thin, too, because I've seen no evidence that they aren't being provided enough to survive, and it seems more that they just want an equal share.

So while I appreciate the conflict from both sides, they also both seem to have irrational justifications for their actions.

There are no games out there that let you don a Día de Los Muertos-esque mask in combat. That's why BRINK is very visually interesting: it takes unconventional ideas and incorporates them into the game to make its art style very unique.

Resistance all the way. Always been sympathetic to the rag-tag, guerrilla fight force.

(By the way, really surprised and happy to see faction preferences cut mostly even. That will just make the game more fun!)

Tied at exactly 78 votes for each side, with a fair number of mercs as well. Awesome. You can tell when the devs have done a good job designing the factions when you get people debating their pros and cons like this. :)

Go team Securistance!

Mercenary.
And I'll probably make half Security, half Resistance. I think the Devs said 16 characters in all.

Each character you create will have a resistance model and a security model, so all of them will be both. And yes there are 16 slots.
