[REQZ] See more weapons equipped & holsters

Post » Sun Jul 04, 2010 4:58 am

I was thinking it would be very cool to see more weapon equipped on your character, so that it really looks like he is dangerous gunslinger
I dont know if its possible but the idea is to use the weapon slots (hotkeys) in order to make weapons appear on your character.

So slot 1 is the default slot that shows ur primary weapon that is equipped by default,
slot 2 is the ammo slot so dont think that one can be used, slot 3 might be used for a rifle, this only shows up on your character but is not used as the primary weapon
maybe its even possible to use more slots to show melee weapons too

I am clueless if this is possible as im a noob with the GECK and all, but I think the game should have had this from the start

Another thing id like to see are holsters for the weapons, same way Oblivion handled the scabbard for swords
I can model/texture the holsters if anyone tries to take up this request

I don't think it's possible. But if it was, it'd be epic!

Holsters would be cool too, and if I remember correctly, all you'd have to do is add the holster to the weapon mesh and the rest is handled by the animation, so it should be reletively easy with the right know-how. Which unfortunately I don't have. But I hope someone out there does!

So theres are 2 different weapon moddels? 1 thats being held when shooting and 1 that is attached to the hip/back whatever?
maybe another option is to make weapon equipable just for the looks? I think that would be the easiest way as you would just equip it as any other item

Someone did make a mod like this for Fallout 3, think it worked along the lines of it would always show the last 3 weapons you'd equipped on your person. So you'd see the last rifle you'd used on your back the last pistol on your waist etc

Know the name of that mod? Might be possible to port ot over

EDIT:
Found the mod, its called http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7531

It works like this according to the readme:

A. What does this mod do?
+++++++++++++++++++

This mod allows you to "holster" multiple RIFLES on your back.

For example:
The Lone Wanderer has an Assault Rifle equipped.
The Lone Wanderer also has a Sniper Rifle and a Combat Shotgun in his/her inventory.
In 3rd person view, you will see the Lone Wanderer's Assault Rifle, Sniper Rifle and Combat Shotgun holstered on the back.

B. How does this mod work?
++++++++++++++++++++

The mod adds an actor effect ability called "Manifold Holster" to the Lone Wanderer and his/her current companion (ONLY Jericho, Clover, Butch, Star Paladin Cross and Charon).

This is a script-based effect which: (1) determines what rifles are in the inventory and then (2) adds and equips the corresponding holstered rifle(s). The holstered rifle(s) will show up in the Pip-Boy "Armor" tab (e.g. "Holstered Gauss Rifle", "Holstered Double-Barrel Shotgun", "Holstered Weapons" etc.).

The mod will check your inventory and update whenever the Lone Wanderer draws a weapon, holsters a drawn weapon or accesses any menu.

The holstered weapons meshes are set to use the "Backpack" bi-ped slot.

C. How does the mod determine which holstered rifles to display?
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

You cannot choose which holstered rifles will be displayed. The script will add the corresponding holstered rifle(s) according to the following hierarchy, in order of precedence:

1. Gauss Rifle
2. Sniper Rifle/Reservist Rifle/Victory Rifle
3. Lincoln's Repeater
4. Laser Rifle/Wazer Wifle/Metal Blaster
5. Hunting Rifle/Ol' Painless
6. Infiltrator/Perforator
7. Chinese Assault Rifle/Xuanlong Assault Rifle
8. Assault Rifle/Wanda
9. Plasma Rifle/A321's Plasma Rifle
10. Tri-Laser Rifle
11. Double-Barrel Shotgun or variant
12. Lever-Action Rifle or variant
13. Combat Shotgun/The Terrible Shotgun
14. Railway Rifle

So anyone who can do the same for New Vegas?

It's possible, but not in the way you might think. You can use the gun models to make equippable items, such as a rifle that uses the backpack slot and hangs on your back. It won't be a functional rifle. and it will clip if you equip another rifle on your back, but if you primarily use a pistol then you'll be getting the look, even if the rifle doesn't actually work.

I'm not going to do this myself, but when NVSE comes out you might be able to get the items that are currently on your quick-slots (doesn't matter which slot) and then have a script equip 'armor' pieces that simulate those items holstered conditions on your character. You'd probably only be able to get two items working - one on the back, one on the hip - but if you don't mind items jumping around when you equip a different weapon on your quick-key list, you could stick a second weapon on the hip, maybe a knife on the chest or lower leg, and maybe some other rifle on the back, but I'd only do that if the rifle didn't clip too horribly. Anyways, you could do all of this and have the 'armor' pieces be hidden and invisible on the player's inventory screen (same way the PipBoy item works) and have it automatically select items to equip upon your body.

So this isnt too hard with a script extender?

Now that NVSE is released, is anybody working on this? It would greatly increase immersion for TPP fans.
