Seeing in the dark

Post » Wed Oct 27, 2010 3:29 am

Just curious what people like to do when say dungeon diving or just walking around to see. I just use light. I don't like torches very much since they don't have a large area of effect, and I don't like how the world looks using Night Eye. Feel free to choose all of the first 3 if say you use it depending on the situation, such as using Light when traveling at night, Night Eye when in dungeons, and a torch when walking around a city.

Night eye. Light just feels too revealing.

I don't find the light spell effect works very well, so night eye wins out by default. Pity I have to spend most of my play time in a basically black and white world.

I used to walk around with a ring of night eye on all the time - even during the day - and I found it good once I got used to it as your mind sort of fills in the blanks.

Haha. Wouldn't do that since I have much better uses for one of my 2 ring spots available. If I did use Night Eye, I'd just cast void gazer.

I prefer the torches as you can turn them off whenever you want without having to know any dispeling spells or have any potions, and not to mention they just look cool ^_^

Can't use them in combat though unless you use a one handed weapon with no shield or have a hotkey torch mod that drops them like in OOO.

I used to always use Night Eye. Fin Gleam was usually the first thing my characters acquired. But after buying a new monitor I found I can see in the dark places just fine, so I do not bother with anything. Sometimes if I am having a real hard time picking up arrows in a dungeon I will turn on a torch, but that is the extent of it.

I can't vote. As a roleplayer the decision is not made by me, it's made by my characters. Non-magic characters use torches. Mage characters who learn their magic through study tend to use a Light spell. Mage character who have an inborn natural ability to channel magical forces tend to use Night Eye.

Interesting perspective. You could just choose all 3 then.

I use a piece of armor enchanted with a light spell normally. Sometimes I'll switch to a helm with a night eye enchantment if I need to see far away in a dungeon.

night eye obviously. u can see without letting others make ur position.

there's a mod that adjusts night eye so u don't get to see all that blue stuff. i never managed to use that mod though.

this is what my assassin does. my mage would rather use some powerful light spell / item - and walk invisible!

can u imagine, casting some sort of 'invisible light ' spell? ha ha ha... ha....

It's funny because my characters have preferences, but I myself like torches and light about equally. I'm not so fond of nighteye, but my witch character (who's now a vampire) lives by it.

Both my mages use pure light. Igodah Go^Pe had such strong light spells by the end of her career, she could illuminate huge cavern areas!

Dyan phor a'Cauz uses both light and torches at the same time if she's not fighting.

I like torches or light spells, mainly because I hate the blueness of night-eye spells.

I like light myself. I just like to imagine my character cautiously sculking through a dungeon with a magic light-ball in their hands. They don't do that in-game but thats what your imagination is for. From a purely logical perspective night-eye is the best way to go in this situation but I think that's just to easy. It ruins the atmosphere. Since I rarely play a character that has no magical skills I, the only time I would use a torch in in the turourial dungeon before I can use light. I know my way around that place so well though that I could make it through with my eyes closed so torches don't get much use with me.

Light or Torch, unless I have a stealth centered character, in which night eye is used.

I use light exclusively once I'm up some levels. Potions usually, but spells and enchantments too. Don't like the night-eye blue and torches are inconvenient.

Torch. My character is not too crazy about magic just yet, so we're keeping it natural. No idea what Night-Eye is, haven't gotten that far yet. Plus the torch gives a more sinister mood and creates atmosphere. I should say: Torch when she uses any kind of light, cause usually she'll go by whatever light there is if she's trying to stay hidden.

Torch/light if im not trying to be stealthy/kill someone, night eye if im stealing/murdering people (its just not practical to sneak into someones house holding a big torch or a bright light in your hands and expect not to get caught.)

In the beginning of the game, I just go get the fin gleam until I can enchant my own equips with night eye (mostly because fin gleam is UGLY)

I never liked torches. They actually make it harder for me to see since there's a big bright flame at the side of your vision, and it doesn't illuminate very far. I can actually see the dim areas better without that bright flame. A light spell works better, and they can be stronger to illuminate stuff farther away.. but as mentioned, it makes it easy for enemies to spot you. So I have to go with Night-Eye, even though the blue monochome effect makes things dull.

Usually Night Eye for practical purposes.

But Torch and Light are good to get the ambient effect of dungeons. So I'll often use those if there are no enemies around.

Or I'll just fumble around in the dark.

Earlier characters were all about Night Eye. However the past several characters do not use any light at all. I've found that it is much easier to see movement in the natural light of the underground. On a side note, I've also found that if I turn down the music all the way, I can hear my enemies before I see them, and can plan the attack appropriately.

Nighteye, but only in really dark dungeons. Usually I prefer to use no extra light at all.
I sometimes use a torch when strolling around Bruma at night
