Seeing your own body in 1st person

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 3:07 am

Clearly you didn't play Arena or Daggerfall...

Amen to that!

Anyway, being able to see at least your legs is a must. Torso and shoulders would be awesome. Do it like in Mirror's Edge, where the camera would actually follow the head when doing somersaults etc.

Imagine: You're running up into the mountains, and this giant comes charging at you. You feel the ground vibrate, stones falling down due to pressure, and his hand grabs you, and throws you away. You're upside down in the air, with no control of your body. Your arms and feet are doing a "waving" motion like in real life. You can only see the sky above and your body. You land on your back (as you land, the screen vibrates) and if you look down, you can see your body and legs lying in the grass. Your character then automatically rises up, and you can see your arms and legs bending, trying to get up.

It was just boring in Oblivion when all combat was just run up to enemy, block, hack, block, slash. You should be able to get thrown by giants, headbutted by minotaurs or pushed by humanoids (so you fly away onto the ground) and so on. You should of course also be able to grab them with telekinesis and so on. MUCH MORE DYNAMIC. It might be hard to make, but there could be a few different "rise up" animations.

Yes, definitely! I liked it in Dark Messiah, and it wasn't so weird or gamechanging as to have need of getting used to it.

Anyway, there should be an option to disable it and return to the "old static mode". Everybody would be happy then.

Doesn't http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtP4rkJBky4 look better than what we currently have in TES?

Would be nice, but it's not necessary in my opinion. Of course some extra immersion would be good though.

I seriously don't see why it would be so terrible to see your boobs. I'm female and it's only natural. If you didn't see your torso and only legs, it would break the immersion. Besides, women may not even see their legs when they stand and look down, so yeah.
Cannot argue that it will be eye candy for those who love boobs though, but so what?

????

what

Americans and Europeans are such square pants

"omg I can see bobs behind cloth, GOD FORGIVE ME"

"omg people are naked under all that cloths GOD FORGIVE ME"

honestly I know its "your" opinion and I do respect it it but it does not mean its not silly.

if people freak out about pixel cleavage then the human race is overdue for a well deserved extinction.

This pretty much.

It's OK to kill plenty of nameless bastards, loot their corpses, leave them lying naked in the middle of nowhere. But if you see a bit of tit, OH MY GOD IT BECOMES A SCANDAL.

And this is coming from an European.

I don't really need to see my own body in first person when I can simply switch to third person instead, not to mention the actual implementation of it which could result in a blocked view and clipping errors.
In a developers point of view I'm also unsure about the technical difficulty and tediousness of making sure this will work with all the actions the player makes. In other words, it could demand many working hours for this to work properly.

The perspective of looking down should be slightly forward. It works better, again like mirrors edge, no cleavage, you only see legs hands feet - works very well.

But yeah repeat thread...

Wow, how very PC you are, telling those silly "chicks" what their opinions are! They should be ashamed of their bodies, nobody wants to see briasts, it's a disgusting thing that they even exist. Personally I don't feel female characters should be allowed, think of the children!

it would be good if you didn't hold your shield and weapons right in front of your face.
Just the very corner of the shield and very end of the sword unless you look down at it in 1st person.

It would be a nice little detail, but the whole PC is a "floating eye" thing doesn't really bother me like it does other people either

I would love to see that, it greatly helped with immersion in Dark Messiah, Thief and Mirror's Edge.

I think you might be getting that. http://media1.gameinformer.com/imagefeed/featured/bethesda/elderscrolls/elderscrollsv/Combat_TrollFireSword.jpg shows the first person view - you can't see the hand holding the sword as you could in Oblivion.

Please yes! It's one of those things you always take for granted until it's not there. This is my main annoyance with Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3. I can honestly say It will be a rather large disappointment for me if it's not implemented in Skyrim. :ermm: Mirror's Edge is a prime example of a fantastic first person view but I'm not hoping for that. Just let me see my lower body please.

Many talk about Mirror's Edge, but I'd love to have more than just that. In Mirror's Edge you see your legs and slightly above that, but if you look down in real life you'll say your whole torso and down.
While I'm sure it would be an improvement above being a floating ball, it's only really half done.

Though this is just what it would look like in this situation. You would hold your right arm bend to anticipate the next move. While just running around though, it really should look different. And the arm is so awkwardly turned in typical anatomy disregarding Beth fashion, it might not have been animated through the new system at all.

Do it like Arma2, with freelook, TrackIR and FreeTrack support, and the whole deal. Some key differences are static models (rather than modular with different clothing and armor) and no females (not that it matters). You get full body awareness, and if you switch from 1st to 3rd the posture will be the same. I cry in shame when I see readied gun in 1st person and lowered gun when I switch to 3rd.

The hit of course is having to render own character in full also in 1st person view. Culling might be tricky, and you'll need a way to reduce head bobbing. But again, Arma2 pulled it off, so why can't BGS?

I usually play in 3rd person unless I need to do something extremely precise, llike aim an arrow, etc.

I see my own cleavage every day, I don't hate it :turned: . Besides, who says I wanna play a chick character... what about those pants, man, that 'little' bump in the middle... Men don't look down their legs and hate that they have something down there, do they? Playing a character, your own six or the opposite, is not about peeping for me. Although everyone likes nice looking people, when I play a male, I want him to look good. First person legs is important but not essential, it's more about the feeling of touching the ground than floating about, imo.

As I mentioned in another thread, I think it would be much cooler to be able to see your own reflection in water and mirrors or other reflective surfaces. It would give the 1st person exclusive people (like me) a reason to bother customizing the look of the character. Besides, it would just be cool.

Oh yes, I don't like to be invisible. It's kind of immersive breaking when you realise NPCs only 'see' your two arms in first person. Reflection would be a nice addon too.

<...> how many girls are going to aim the screen down and say "Dang, I wish I could see my boobs!"... I doubt many girls will even care.

Indeed, i personnaly won't care, but I would care if I couldn't see the ground because of them! "Damn, what are those things blocking my view! Just two (too) obstusive round pieces of fat."
Legs in 1st person view should start at the hips anyway. Like in thief 3 and other games did.

Boobs, bumpy men areas between the pants... or not.
The main question is to see arms, legs, shoulders, torso, etc. To see something more than just your floating arms
It really adds a lot of feeling to the game I think :)

Can't stop watching Mirror's Edge clips on youtube. Dang I love it :P

If the animations are good, yes. If not, please no.
I remember that oblivion mod that allowed you to see your body in first person. That was cool, but Oblivion animations are so bulky that it ruined everything. I think something like Far cry 2 with good camera moves, hands and legs visible only sometimes wold be the best.
The reason why is because I like to imagine the animations. When I climb a hill, I picture my character helping himself up with his hands for example. Switch to 3rd person and it would just be the unnatural walking animation.
So yea, unless animations are really good, thanks bu no thanks.
