Seems No ambiento occlusion in the engine :(

Post » Wed Aug 25, 2010 1:54 am

Many modern engines now do have it , but seems the New creation engine doesn't

http://www.gamestar.de/_misc/images/original.cfm?pk=2198720

in this pidc you can see how the terrain / rock doesn't create any ambient occlusion as well between rock elements .......

Not really worried about it, to be honest. Does it NEED to have it for you to enjoy?

Ambient Occlusion is a memory hog, so no, there will be little to no ambient occlusion in those screens because those screens are from the 360. Their engine almost certainly has Ambient Occlusion.

agreed, remember what company this is. main focus of their games is for the cpu so ambient occlusion will of course be there. just get a comp

Does anyone know of a 360 game that had it? If not I would think that is a pretty good reason for it not to appear in the few screen shots we have.

How many times have I heard Crysis' graphics compared to Skyrim's graphics today?... Two different game-world systems.

Anyway, it's probably an early-build screenshot like the creek one. The graphics may be better than what is shown in that. Who knows.

Ambient occlusion does look nice, but it's not absolutely necessary. Skyrim's graphics look pretty good enough already. Still, there will eventually be mods to add in ambient occlusion anyway when there's a Skyrim Graphics Extender.

Maybe if lots of people keep pestering Bethesda, they'll add an option for AO on the PC sometime near the end of the development cycle.

Every single piece of media we have seen of Skyrim so far has been on the xbox360.

If something like that is going to be included, it will be on the PC version. The consoles can't handle anything like that.

Battlefield and the upcoming Crysis 2 , Actually Cryengine can handle game world spaces of 16 x16 kms way bigger than the Bethesda one ,Cryengine 3 ( Crysis 2 ) Can handle infinite worlds ... , plus many other engines also managed larger game spaces like Just Cause 2 , Far Cry 2 and many others...

Yeah never mind it is on the wiki page... Oh it wasn't that I didn't believe him, but I was finding very few results in google which I thought odd.

There's a list on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screen_Space_Ambient_Occlusion

Also, add Risen to the list of open world games, it's more like a TES game than any of the others.

So what does Ambient Occlusion due in Lame mans terms?

I read the wiki, but its not making any sense.

Something about making the textures smoother or more polygons counted for or something.......?

Perhaps the question should be rephrased thusly:

How many of those games are open-world games that let you roam virtually anywhere, while also crunching the numbers necessary to keep track of NPCs with day/night schedules, numerous quest hooks, differing quest states, dragons roaming freely through said open world with AI robust enough that they can divebomb, land, take off, etc., and NPC pathfinding of the sort we know Oblivion used (and a form of which Skyrim will likely use) to enable the free traveling of NPCs over vast distances through the world?

I'm not saying ambient occlusion is prohibitively expensive to the extent that it's impossible in a game like this. But it very well could be in this case for all we know as of now.

Risen, seriously, it's from the creators of the Gothic series if I remember correctly. It has most of what you listed, with the possible exception of traveling npcs, and obviously without Skyrim's dragons.

Lol what?

Being a huge Risen fan and putting 200+ hours into that game I can say you are so very, very wrong dear friend.

Risen was about as basic as it could be programming wise

Only Crytek has the time for that.(a la Crysis 1... definitely not Crysis 2)
Bethesda's not all about graphics, unlike them.
