Seems we′re going BTTR

Post » Thu Jul 29, 2010 11:31 pm

Did anyone watch the http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/01/14/the-sounds-of-skyrim.aspx Video number 4. We're not even 1 minute in (almost, at 0:58) when Lampert says "The Elder Scrolls theme ... that first premiered in Morrowind." It is the Morrowind theme. They intentionally used it again.

did anyone read lordmidnight's post where he quoted Mark Lampert as saying

"The Elder Scrolls theme ... that first premiered in Morrowind."

but somehow missed the first part of the thing he quoted

"The Elder Scrolls theme ... that first premiered in Morrowind."

and disagreed with the post he was responding to even though the original post was actually correct in saying it is the Elder Scrolls theme?

I MAY BE WRONG, but Morrowind theme wasn t Daggerfall theme nor Arena theme....i can t remember for sure but i would bet i m right so your wrong.
And if you remember something Morrowind main theme was a huge sucess by itself not Arena nor Daggerfall.

So its Morrowind theme all along maybe afterthought adopted to be TES theme.

Nothing you said, makes any sense. <-- That especially doesn't, make any sense. Maybe you should think about, if it makes any sense, before you put commas, in random places.

Actually I, read it as if he, was speaking, like Captain Kirk.

I think Skyrim will be its own game, not bound by the differences between Morrowind and Oblivion, but rather by the similarities between the two.

Yes it's the theme that premiered in Morrowind. Nobody's arguing about that.

The point is that it's now officially the Elder Scrolls theme. So using it does NOT count as a nod towards Morrowind. (Also, who knows if it was afterwards adopted to be the TES theme, or beforehand? Maybe the composer was told to make something that will be a trademark melody of the series. That would make a lot of sense. Like I said in my first post, from Redguard on they actually started trying to make the series coherent in many aspects.)

Your English is fine; your post makes sense. Most forum users make mistakes all the time, and those who are really good at English don't usually feel the need to go around correcting them. :)

considering the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPEEp5R_pOo was originally slated to be Oblivion's title song before they decided on Reign of the Septims (likely due to Oblivion's plot being much more direct) and it's even closer to Morrowind's theme than Skyrim's, this does indeed seem to be the case.

Morrowind′s uniqueness and story + Oblivion′s Action and graphics.

This sound sooo good to my ears!

Skyrim will, perhaps, have some familiar characteristics, hopefully the better ones, from its lineage, but will be unique unto itself.

Michael Kirkbride, a contractor at Bethesda, and the guy behind all the cool lore, called Skyrim "a return to form that is both the best of Morrowind and the best of Oblivion." So thats what I voted for.

Wow! That's good. Is there a source for this - not doubting you, just was curios to see first-hand? Is MK going to work on Skyrim?

http://www.imperial-library.info/content/elder-scrolls-v?page=8.

he was writing http://www.imperial-library.info/content/seven-fights-aldudagga before Skyrim was officially announced, and if i'm not mistaken he was largely in charge of Oblivion's important main quest dialogue and stuff like the Commentaries, and played a big role in writing the Knights of the Nine expansion, so yeah he's probably working on Skyrim in some capacity.

I don't understand why some things that have been in both Morrowind and Oblivion now get treated as if they're typical Morrowind trademarks. I mean, the dragon symbol was in both games, but most of all: The main theme is not any more a slight variation of Morrowind's theme than it is of Oblivion's theme.

Yep. I watched the trailer, and immediately thought "Yes! It's the great theme music from Oblivion!" :D

But, then, I've played Oblivion more, and more recently, than Morrowind. And have some of the Oblivion tracks in my iTunes library.

I got a bit of the Morrowind feeling myself but until I actually play the game I have no idea just how similar Skyrim will be to Morrowind. I want the game to build on the good bits of Oblivion and Morrowind but I want Skyrim to be it's own game with it's own feel and if we're lucky it'll be better than the previous games.

The Oblivion theme was missing several notes from the Morrowind theme, but the Skyrim theme has included the whole tune.

I think it'll be a mix of both. But probably more on the Oblivion side.

Best of both, and the best of Fallout. Though I'm getting an ever so slightly more Morrowind vibe, but I see people saying they have the Oblivion vibe from it as well. You know what I think that means? They just did their damn job extremely well if they can get the two groups to enjoy one style of game.

Edit
In retrospect I change my vote from Morrowind to it's own unique experience.

Where is the flat "Skyrim will be Skyrim, period." option?

Seriously, you can pick out similarities between any games in the history of video games. Skyrim will be Skyrim. Nothing more, nothing less.

Much more like Morrowind (or hell, Daggerfall), in that it tries very hard to make its world unique. Skyrim just constantly seems to give off an ancient, powerful vibe. Its a world with thousands of years of history behind it, and ancient cultures, traditions, and issues. Much like Morrowind's cities and Great Houses were an imposing force in Morrowind that the player could constantly observe their influence, I feel the cities of Skyrim will be much the same.

Skyrim definitely looks very alive, and I think that is really what is important.

Edit: Much like Gamgee, I changed my vote to "Skyrim is something unique", because it only feels like Morrowind in that it tries so hard to be a unique world, which I believe does make it much like Morrowind or Daggerfall, but, of course, also makes it its own unique game.

1.The Akatosh symbol, is back on the Cover. (The Dragon shaped thing)
2.The music in the last trailer is similar to Morrowind′s Main Theme.
3.The drum sounds in the beginning of the Skyrim theme sound very similar to the drums of Morrowind′s theme.
4.It is said that Skyrim will have more uniqueness in many sections like culture, gameworld... (Morrowind was extremely unique)
5.Back to hand craftet game world!
6.You′re the Chosen one, like in Morrowind. In Oblivion you were more of a helping hand.
7.Skyrim′s story is more like a Prophecy, and you slowly realize that you′re the Dragonborn (like the Neravarine in Morrowind)
8.Races are said to look more different from each other. (Damn, i hope those Argonian legs aren′t straight...)

1. the IC was plastered with these
2. its similar to Oblivions also
3. its just an instrument, and it also has people singing
4. I think all ES games were pretty unique and doesn't that contradict? if something is unique it is not going to be like anything else
5. I never noticed difference, I was bored with the landscape in Morrowind and Oblivion, although there were a few little things I enjoyed
6. same with almost every other RPG
7. All ES have a prophecy that is why they are called elder scrolls
8.How can you tell? we saw a dark picture of an argonian

I don't understand what everyone says is wrong with oblivion sure you can pwn people but at some point most people become gods and aren't gods supposed to wreak their almighty venganence upon those who they dislike. I loved and still love oblivion with all my heart and it saddens me to hear people say oblivion was terrible.

I think most of you have noticed that stuff:

- The Akatosh symbol, is back on the Cover. (The Dragon shaped thing)
- The music in the last trailer is similar to Morrowind′s Main Theme.
- The drum sounds in the beginning of the Skyrim theme sound very similar to the drums of Morrowind′s theme.
- It is said that Skyrim will have more uniqueness in many sections like culture, gameworld... (Morrowind was extremely unique)
- Back to hand craftet game world!
- You′re the Chosen one, like in Morrowind. In Oblivion you were more of a helping hand.
- Skyrim′s story is more like a Prophecy, and you slowly realize that you′re the Dragonborn (like the Neravarine in Morrowind)
- Races are said to look more different from each other. (Damn, i hope those Argonian legs aren′t straight...)

Stuff that sounds more like Oblivion:

- Skill System more easy (but it sounds very interesting so far, imho)
- Some skills got cancelled again
- More focus on Action like COD (reminds me of COD because of that intense first person footage where you can see your hands while stabbing someone _in a special move_)

It seems that Bethesda is trying to make clear that they want to add Morrowind′s uniqueness and story + Oblivion′s Action and graphics.

Or is Skyrim just Skyrim and do you think it will be entirely different and nothing in the game will remind you of Morrowind or Oblivion?

Totally agree! It'll be one hell of a game, and even better when the mods start coming out. GOTY for sure!

Looks a lot more like Oblivion to me but i think and hope they will take the best parts from both games but in the end, Skyrim should be Skyrim and not Morrowind or Oblivion 2.
