I know its for XP and Vista but tons of others got it to work. I'm wondering if you guys can help me. I got the the threads and cores limited by ini, the d3d9.dll and updated all my video and audio drivers.
What now, i can finally load the entire intro but it freexes at birth in compatability mode XP (pack 2). What now?

Yes. True. Intel doesn't make any 3D graphics that can run Fallout3 at all (and the very best they have can only do a really terrible job of "walking" with FO-NV).

If you have a desktop system with a normally shaped mid-tower type enclosure, there are numerous upgrades for the graphics that are possible.

Laptops, however, are simply too limited to be able to do much of anything with, if that's what it turns out to be.

Let's have a budget amount, and a proposed screen resolution, for a desktop to upgrade.

Being that you are on a laptop, the chances of upgrading the integrated chip to something better is pretty much none.

I am sorry but this is utter rubbish.

This game came out in 2008 and is not demanding by todays standards. I have just installed it on a Core i5 laptop with Intel HD 3000 (1 generation newer than yours), and it runs very smoothly on Medium at 720p, I haven't upped it yet but i suspect high would be fine too.

Initially the game did not run due to d3d9.dll issue, and then I had exact same problem as described in this post, it froze just after I chose boy or girl. For me the .ini restricting the cores fixed it. Are you sure you edited the file correctly? I also have Intel graphics (an ATI card at home but this is something to play when staying away) and the same symptoms, this fixed it for me.

Your card can run the game, how well I can't say, but the card is not making it crash.

The HD 3000 series chipsets are more powerful than the "Graphics Media Accelerator" series. Intel focused on on getting their graphics processing up in the newer parts. (Nothing compared to a dedicated Nvidia or AMD GPU though) So yes, his problem is with his video solution. It is really not meant for playing games on.

Open up the fallout.ini file in: My Documents\My Games\Fallout3
Find the line:
bUseThreadedAI=0
change it to:
bUseThreadedAI=1
Add another line after it and insert:
iNumHWThreads=2
thats what i did so far and i used the configuations that d3d9.dll automatically makes

And you still get a blank screen/frozen screen after the Intro?

Sorry for the delay. I would attempt to reinstall outside of that directory. Windows 7 has major access restriction for Program Files (and Program Files(x86) directories. This can cause issues for certain applications. I recommend placing all games outside of these directories.

Thanks putting it on the desktop works. Sorry for the late reply I wouldn't want to be gratefull and all of a sudden it doesn't work. Flawless 40fps gameplay, ill update any problems later. Try going to the Nexus and download Fallout Remastered.

Also you might try going into the Data files directory and renaming the Music directory - it gives me problems, it might do the same for you.
